Concordia College - NY -2013

Published

Hi All,

I just sent off my application for Accelerated Nursing program at Concordia College for the fall of 2013. I'm really excited and nervous. I saw the thread for the fall 2012 was quite active and a few would-be 2013 students had posted to that one so I thought I should start a new one.

Anyway, I would LOVE to hear from any posters on the 2012 thread about how their experience has been going, anyone who is finished with the program, and anyone who is applying like me!

Thanks!!

Rachwabb.. Same with me it's 30 days from your acceptance... I believe mine is due may 15th. I'm unsure if I am going to send my deposit in or not I just found out I got accepted to NYU and am so conflicted on what to do

Congrats ToniMariep!!

A good friend on mine just finished the program there in December. She said it was great program despite the expense. Either way you will be going to a great program that will prepare you for being a great RN.

Either way good luck.

@tonimarie- congrats on NYU! thats surprising you just found out. I got rejected a couple of months ago. with a 4.0 grad and 4.0 pre-reqs!!!! (I did only have a 3.0 undergrad though). It's def a good school, but more costly. Let us know what you end up deciding.

@tonimariep

Congrats on your acceptance to both programs. I found out last week I was accepted to NYU. Initially, I was positive I would attend Concordia regardless of what other schools I was accepted to. Now after receiving the acceptance to NYU, I'm so torn. It doesn't help that the welcome packet paints such a beautiful picture of what it would be like to attend the school. The price of NYU is so high and I'm wondering if it's worth the debt. I know I should stick with Concordia because its affordable, smaller, and a great school, but I'm just unsure if I'm passing up an opportunity by not going to NYU. It's been a crazy week trying to decide. I wish you the best in reaching a decision.

I am most definitely in the same boat as you, FutureCPN. I feel after graduating from NYU there will

Be more opportunities and a better shot at a graduate program. Ugh, I am so undecided. Best of luck to u as well

i spoke with a dr of mine who told me to definitely go to the bigger name school if i was accepted to both. however, i dont really care... an RN is an RN. plus we all already have bachelors degress which puts us ahead of students that received their RN without Bachelors. also some of us might have grad credits (I have 30)

nyu is cool its a big name school its in the city im sure its a great program. i would have liked to get in. i know its tough.

but im happy and excited about Concordia.

if youre having trouble deciding i think you should reach out to anyone that can provide advice. anyone in the medical field...you can look around the forums here...there's forums on so many subjects I'm sure one of them has to do with employment after nursing schools.

that same dr also told me that the nurses he hires (hes an top expert in his field and has his own business) is dependent on what kind of experience they have after nursing school. for example, he said if he sees someone that's worked in a cardiac intensive care unit, he would be likely to hire them. just another thought...graduating as an RN is just the beginning of your career

@ Tonimariep and Future CPN

If were you I would look on old posts of the NYU ABSN threads and see if you can get in contact with any old students. Ask them any possible questions you have and if that particular BSN degree has put them over other new grads in the job search. Maybe that will help your decision.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

@FutureCPN, let me know what you decide on !

There's great advice here. Thanks guys. @tonimariep I've decided to go to Concordia. I know I can't afford NYU. My yearly RN salary wouldn't even amount to the debt I accumulate attending NYU. I'm planning to pay my deposit for Concordia this week and just get excited again to begin this journey instead of agonizing on where to go. I hope everything works out for you :)

Congrats FutureCPN on making you final decision, see you at the orientation. I agree with you on trying to save money. At the end of the day a BSN is usually a BSN.

You should be getting your medical packet in the mail soon after your send in the deposit. I just received mine.
