Concordia College - NY -2013

U.S.A. New York

Hi All,

I just sent off my application for Accelerated Nursing program at Concordia College for the fall of 2013. I'm really excited and nervous. I saw the thread for the fall 2012 was quite active and a few would-be 2013 students had posted to that one so I thought I should start a new one.

Anyway, I would LOVE to hear from any posters on the 2012 thread about how their experience has been going, anyone who is finished with the program, and anyone who is applying like me!

Thanks!!

@lahhere I work in a hospital. I don't want to just quit my job because ideally after I get my degree I would like to work there. I did my prereqs while working full time and it was very difficult. I know I won't be able to work full time and do an accelerated program. I guess I have a few months to figure it all out.

Hey for everyone who still hasn't heard. I just emailed admissions and he responded:files have been given back to me and we will be sending decisions out the end of this week and next week.

So if you haven't heard yet don't despair!

I got my letter today. WOOO HOO!! I'm in too :)

Specializes in PCU, LTAC, Corrections.

Congrats Ginamarie119!! So excited for you!

congrats GinaMarie!!! that must have been a happy moment!

@lahhere

I completely understand you concerning the $$ situation while in school. Since graduating last year I have been a temp. However, that is really iffy work at time and mind-numbing. I took a PCT ( for those who do not know that is CNA+ EKG/Phelbotomy) course in 2011. I never took the exam however. I am trying to have clinical portion and the state boards completed by the end of the month. Worse case scenario is I can pick up a couple of shifts here and there in a nursing home or in a hospital. Bills do not stop even though I will be in school. However, I am going to try to work and save as much a possible between now and school starting so for that first semester I can just focus.

Hopefully that works out.

Thanks guys!! I am so excited. I can't wait to meet all of you.

I absolutely understand the money situation, that's why I backed out of NYU last semester. I wanted to make sure that I was being financially responsible. This is a HUGE undertaking. I was so excited to find Concordia. I think it is actually a better fit. Everything happens in its own time. Things will work out I'm sure. I have a friend that did the program at Pace. She said its rough but if you are determined, you can probably work 15-20hrs per week. I was a waitress during undergrad. If you are willing to sacrifice a chunk if your weekend, and can find the right restaurant, it's surprisingly lucrative... Good luck!!

I was accepted as well, however, after seeing my SAR, I am on the fence about attending. I will have to take out tons of private loans for school and for living expenses, which I don't think Is possible at this point :( Congrats and good luck to all who were accepted!

Congrats Valentino8981... Hope to see you in the fall but no matter what happens, it's still a great accomplishment!!

thanks guys...it looks like i will try my best to save money and then have some sort of job during the program...when we have no other choice theres not much to do.

@valentino- I completely understand. I am facing the same situation with mounting loans. Ive decided that when it comes down to it you have to pursue the career you want and love, and worry about the loans later. There are great repayment plans that start very low and increase over time. Youve been giving a great opportunity. So many people want into this program...I think it would be great to take advantage. Just giving you my $.02 cents lol!!

Hellovalentino8981

I read your concerns about financing school and felt compelled to respond. Ithink we are all in the same boat. Financing school is going to be a challengefor all of us. I want to offer my prayers. I know it not much but I'm strong believerin prayer and faith, but don’t count yourself out just yet. I'm sure soon we'llall be brainstorming and tossing around ideas as to how to finance school.
