Columbia University ETP Program 2013

U.S.A. New York

Published

The thread here for the Columbia University ETP program for entry in 2012 is pretty long (45 pages right now!), so I was hoping to elicit some of the same responses for those who are applying in 2013. Let's get to know each other!

Why are you applying to Columbia? What have you heard about the program- good, bad or ugly? Are you nervous, excited, ambivalent?

Looking forward to getting to know some of you!

Hi all, I too have been following along for a couple weeks and I'm happy to say I've been accepted to the FNP program! I'm originally from California, currently living in San Diego. Hope to meet many of you at the admit day in March :). I'm still interviewing for a couple programs in California, but if I decide to go to Columbia it will be so different from what I'm accustomed to... I've lived in Calfornia my whole life. Nervous but excited!!

I agree, I've never been to NY before so I have no idea where to start when it comes to hotels/neighborhoods to stay in.

just joined the FB group. Thanks Holly!

Hey everyone! I'm so excited to meet you all in March! I went to NYU for part of my undergrad and I visited Columbia in the summer, so is you have questions about the city, feel free to PM me! Other than the city itself, though- I probably won't be too helpful (ie I wouldn't know much about what hotels to stay in). Perhaps some current students can host us! That would be great.

Wish I could host you all, but I live in the suburbs, (about 20 miles outside of the city) with my four kids, three cats, two fish and a dog!!

I grew up & worked in Manhattan, though, so I can offer advice. My recommendation for a cheaper hotel that's easily found & close to subways, etc. is the Holiday Inn on 57th Street. It's centrally located in midtown and the 1/9 train could get you up to Columbia quickly. Otherwise, take a look at the Milford Plaza hotel or Marriott Marquis in Midtown for a (relatively) inexpensive hotel that's in the heart of Times Square. Truthfully, there aren't a lot of great hotels on the Upper West Side where Columbia is located and to stay all the way downtown will make it a challenge to get up to the school using public transportation.

Hope that helps a little!! Can't wait to meet you all!!!

Hi everyone! I was accepted yesterday to the psych program and couldn't be more excited. I'm still waiting to hear from Penn, but most likely I will stay in New York. I would love to talk to any other people in the psych program, so please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].

@LCSW4now: I've been accepted and live in New York, feel free to shoot me any questions!

Hey LCSW4now:

I live in the city, actually about 2 blocks from the SON.

For those of you who have already booked flights for visiting day...what days do you plan on staying in NYC? Just curious, I'm still trying to make sure I will be able to go before I book anything!

I am staying Thursday and Friday night. We should definitely plan something for Friday night.

I think I am going to be there from Thursday until Monday...because I might as well.

I love that there are so many west coasters on here! :)

Hi everyone,

I was accepted to Columbia for psych. I'm also from southern California. It's so exciting - and a relief - to be hearing back from schools. Congrats to those accepted!

I'll most likely be there from Thursday to Sunday. I'm hoping we get some more details about the visiting day soon!

I'm hoping to do a red eye thursday night and stay until Sunday!
