Columbia University ETP Program 2013

The thread here for the Columbia University ETP program for entry in 2012 is pretty long (45 pages right now!), so I was hoping to elicit some of the same responses for those who are applying in 2013. Let's get to know each other!

Why are you applying to Columbia? What have you heard about the program- good, bad or ugly? Are you nervous, excited, ambivalent?

Looking forward to getting to know some of you!

I also just booked my flight from SFO--->JFK on Jet Blue! The flight was $345 round trip, not totally awful. I live in San Francisco and I have no idea where to stay in New York. Does anyone have any advice on hotels? Even just neighborhoods I should look into staying?

I can't wait to meet everyone!

It would be great if some of us could possibly coordinate staying in the same hotel, that way those from the west coast won't feel so lost :)

It's best to search for flights Mon-Wed. Prices tend to go up traditionally Thursdays and on....

Might be a good idea to just priceline a hotel room and if others are willing to pitch in here, can squeeze 4 to a room to save some money!

Just have ppl PM you to get their e-mail addresses so you can friend them on FB. You need to be friends in order to add people to the FB group.

I'm from Seattle too! Haven't heard anything about the deferring process but we can move across the country and be poor together! haha

I would love to go out for drinks after! I'll be traveling from Seattle and have never been to NY so seeing a little bit of the city is definitely on my agenda! :)

I agree, I've never been to NY before so I have no idea where to start when it comes to hotels/neighborhoods to stay in.

Hi all,

I've been following along for a couple of weeks, and must say that I'm happy (and jealous) of all of you! Congratulations, regardless of where you go! I am in NYC now, and have been a licensed clinical social worker for the past seven years (I graduated from Columbia School of Social Work in 2006). I applied to the psych program and was just wait listed. When I read about all of you, it seems that many hail from parts outside of the city? Has anyone been accepted who lives in the city? While I don't want to toot my own horn by any means, I'm trying to figure out their process right now, especially because I will have to terminate with 50+ clients.

I do plan to contact the school next week, but I am a little anxious, and would like some insider scoop sooner! Thanks everyone and congratulations again. I hope to be your classmate in the future.
