Columbia University ETP Program 2013

U.S.A. New York

Published

The thread here for the Columbia University ETP program for entry in 2012 is pretty long (45 pages right now!), so I was hoping to elicit some of the same responses for those who are applying in 2013. Let's get to know each other!

Why are you applying to Columbia? What have you heard about the program- good, bad or ugly? Are you nervous, excited, ambivalent?

Looking forward to getting to know some of you!

KDiem, where did you hear this negative info about the Columbia program? Its especially concerning to hear that NYC hospitals don't want to hire Columbia nurses. Why would that be? It's so weird since Columbia's program is like #11 in the country.

I've heard pretty negative things about most of the programs in the NY/NJ area so I guess its just about picking the program that sucks the least?

Specializes in emergency.

In for pysch! :)

Hey guys!

Just got in! So excited! Congrats to all!

Has anyone heard about what the schedule is like? I know its supposed to be intense but does anybody know what a sample schedule looks like?

I'm having a bit of trouble deciding what to do now. My two options are Columbia and UMDNJ. UMDNJ seems like a much better idea because its SO much cheaper. The total cost of UMDNJ is $30,000 total. Although I've heard iffy things about both schools (like how they're disorganized, not such supportive faculty, etc.) I'm wondering if with all the aid and scholarships, Columbia's tuition can be comparable. Also, the deadline to let them know is March 15th and I wont hear back from UMDNJ until after that. Should I just screw it and give them the $500 (omg!) deposit and wait to find out from UMDNJ?

Last thing: I was told I need to pick a different specialty because women's health is full. How do we do that?

See my last post re women's health. :)

Congrats everyone! I got in for FNP!! :) 'm sooooo excited. But I'm also from CA and from bay area and worried about moving across country esp since the program starts in couple of months!!

Does anyone know how much scholarships Columbia offers? Tuition+living costs are very overwhelming...

A question for psych students:

I have read in the forums that psych students at Columbia have to practice for 6 months in New York upon graduation. Do you all know if this is true? Also, does anyone know the estimated cost of the program for psych students? The other programs I’ve applied to are Vanderbilt and Seattle U—tuition for both of them is around 90k for two years, so I’m just trying to get an idea… Seattle’s cost of living is not as high as NYC, but it is up there. Nashville is dirt cheap in comparison!

Women's Health NP peeps:

I have an update. You all got the email about the WHNP specialty being suspended. Just to clarify (I called poor *** again), we will be guaranteed a spot in (most) other primary care specialties. I asked about FNP and CNM and he said FNP we would be admitted to as soon as we made a decision (with a sub-specialty in women's health) and CNM we would have to wait until we were in the ETP program and then request it. Hope this helps. :)

For all the California kids, has anyone booked a hotel for visiting day yet? I just booked my flight. I'm hoping Columbia has some deals on hotels for us...

Anyone else in for pediatrics??? :) I am so excited!!

@SFpnponc: How much was the flight? which airline? I haven't booked mine yet coz i want to wait until they send another email about the visiting day, registration, financial aid, etc.
