BMCC Spring 2011 hopefuls?

U.S.A. New York

Published

I know this is kind of early but I just wanted to check if anybody plans to apply for the Spring 2011 nursing program at BMCC (Borough of Manhattan Community College) in NYC. I just met the preclinical advisor this week and he gave an update that CUNY eliminated the need for non-preclinical students (like me who's currently at liberal arts at BMCC) to first change their curriculum to preclinical before applying for the nursing program.

Here's an April 30 memo from the nursing department for anybody who wants to apply for the nursing program:

------------------

TO: All Non-Nursing Students

FROM: The Nursing Department

DATE: April 30, 2010

RE: Admission into the Nursing Program

Non-nursing student who want to apply to the Nursing program please note the following:

1. Admission into the Nursing program is based on the GPA in the four required prerequisite courses (Eng101, Psy100, Mat104 and BIO425) and the overall GPA for both the Day and Evening/Weekend Nursing Programs.

2. Students who want to apply for the Full-Time Day Program must wait one semester after completion of the four required pre-requisite courses to apply for admission into the Nursing program.

3. Students who work full-time during the day and want to apply for the Part-Time Evening/Weekend Program must wait one semester after completion of the following courses: ENG101, PSY100, MAT104, BIO425, BIO426, BIO420, and PSY240 or SOC100 in order to apply for admission into the Nursing Program.

4. Please be aware that admission into the Nursing Program is also based on seat availability. The College does not guarantee admission into the Nursing Program.

5. In order to advance into the Nursing Program, students must provide documentation for one of the following categories:

US Citizenship, Permanent Residency, and International Students with F1 status, Granted Asylum, Refugee Status, Temporary Protected Status, Withholding of Removal, Deferred Enforced Departure or Deferred Action Status by the US Government.

-------------

By the way, for those who are applying in late October for the Spring 2011 program, make sure to bring your advisement sheet and transcript if you took some prereqs outside BMCC. If you're applying for the evening program, also bring proof of your current employment.

I'm sooo excited to apply and can't wait for October!

Best Regards,

Dee

Thanks! GPA acceptance these days seem to be in the range of 3.7-3.86, which is quite high . But I'm hopeful to still be able to get in. Are you taking nursing at Hunter?

I transfered to Hunter to do nursing. I will let you know, the pre-requisite nursing courses are intense. It's very hard to get into the nursing program at Hunter College. People told me to stay away from Hunter's nursing program because it's so intense. I wish I listened because they were right.

Did you get into the Hunter Nursing Program? I transfered to Hunter to do nursing but it was just too intense so now I got a situation I'm trying to get out of academically.

I am finishing my last pre-req this semester (summer I) and am planning on applying for Spring 2011. I was told in the nursing department that applications were in October though after reading the paperwork in the department it seems like I'm not eligble to apply until after the fall because of the sememster wait or is the fall considered my semester wait as my application is processed? I find these details to be confusing. let me know if you have any insight!

Hi BKLARH,

They already accepted students for fall semester since May that's why the next acceptance is for Spring 2011 semester now. I already finished my prereq since June and also waiting for October to apply. Will you apply for the morning or evening program?

Goodluck this semester!

ooh yes! I realized they had accepted the fall class already. I was concerned I would be made to wait until Fall of 2011 which would really stink!! :-) I am going to apply for the days. Getting excited. I wish it were just time already!! Good luck to you too!

Does Hunter College has any entrance exam? I will be relocating from texas. What test scores do they require any idea?

Hi ddeguzman2!

I have a quick question for you: How does the application process to BMCC work exactly? The reason I'm asking is because I'm so frustrated from being unable to speak to anyone at BMCC! The administration is horrible and usually every time I call I'm on hold for over an hour (no joke!) so I can't get any info!

I'm a student at NYU and I will apply to their nursing program in spring 2011, but I will also need to apply to different other schools since their program, besides being very hard to get into is also very $$$$$$$$! Do you recommend I take the pre-reqs somewhere, either NYU or BMCC before applying to BMCC? Should I apply to liberal Arts at BMCC and then take the pre-reqs? I would gratefully appreciate any help or insight you might have!

Thank you so much,

Kika

I believe they require the NLN PAX exam.

Hi Kika,

I have several classmates at BMCC who plan to enter the NYU program eventually but only taking the prereqs at BMCC since it's way cheaper to do it. Some apply as non-matriculated - Pros: you can take whatever subject, no need to take prereq or co-requisite subjects for example, when taking AP1, you don't have to take chem first, or taking AP2 you don't have to finish AP1 first...and so on...Cons: Tuition is a little higher compared to matriculated but still cheaper than taking them at NYU.

If you decided to be a matriculated student, then choose liberal arts.

I also recommend checking with NYU if the prereqs you're going to take at BMCC is compatible with NYU's requirements.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best Regards,

Dee
