BMCC Fall 2011 Applicants - HESI A2

U.S.A. New York

Hello fellow BMCC nursing applicants,

Anyone applying for Fall 2011? They now require the HESI A2 (I believe the Spring '11 hopefuls didn't need HESI). Does anyone know what the percentages will be for prereq GPA/ overall GPA/ HESI score in determining the rankings?

I'm pretty worried now because I was hoping to boost up my overall GPA from 3.7 to above 3.8 this semester. But finals just passed, and I calculated my grades; I think my GPA is dropping to a ~3.63 because I might receive a C in my Microbio class. I'm considering emailing my professor and requesting some kind of administrative withdrawal instead of getting the C. If somehow I'm allowed the withdrawal, my GPA will become ~3.84. My prereq GPA is ~3.86 (2As, 2A-s).

BMCC is notorious for rejecting 3.8s, let alone 3.7s and lower. Should I rely on acing the HESI or should I contact my professor and hope I get the withdrawal? Or is there a possibility that a 3.7 this sem could get accepted?

As far as I know they are not looking for overall GPA.They might check it if there are many people for one place.I'm also applying for Fall 2011.When are you taking Hesi.

I'm taking it tomorrow actually. I kind of wish I gave myself more time to study, but when I first signed up for it, I thought the fresher the material from API&II the better off I'll be. Now, I'm just getting more nervous as it approaches lol.

The only reason I'm concerned about overall GPA is because I've seen many applicants with 4.0-3.9 prereq GPAs, plus considering the fact that my last name is in the latter half of the alphabet, I might not make the cutoff when it comes down to ties. It worried me even more when I didn't see any thread for Fall '11, because then I assume no one is worried about their GPAs lol. Can you tell I'm almost panicking?

You will be fine!it's good that you took A&P2.I didn't and I'm a little worried.I'm taking the test next Wednesday. Can you please tell me later what kind of questions are in critical thinking section?Last year the lowest GPA for entering was around 3.8 on prereq.I think that Hesi might actually help if it's to competitive. The counselor couldn't actually tell me what criteria they are considering 1st,GPA or Hesi.I'm so worried!

I'm so worried, too! Right now I'm pouring all my efforts into this HESI.

I've been borrowing the HESI review book from the library, and there was no actual "Critical Thinking" section, so I've been racking my brain trying to prepare such questions for myself, but it'll probably be a combination of math/nursing questions (I just did a quick forum search for critical thinking, and now I believe it's best to use material studied from Math for Health Sci)? I think the best to prepare right now is the A&P material, especially for you if you haven't taken A&PII yet, because from browsing these forums, that's usually the section people score lowest on.

Anyway, good luck on your exam! I'll let you know how mine goes -so nervous-

Good luck to you too!Are you applying for nights/weekend program?I heard that is easier to get in the weekend program.

Hi,How did your exam go?Can you give me any tips on what I should focus more? What was on critical thinking section?Thank you very much!!!

Hello sorry I got caught up running errands right after the exam.

Last minute, I searched for "hesi" and "hesi critical thinking" in this forum, and read everything from the past five years to get input on the type of questions for the critical thinking section.

https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/my-study-guide-390611.html The advice given by Sisph is incredibly helpful. The critical thinking portion really is all just logic and common sense. It would help if you have access to those books that she mentions or a type of nursing exam questions review book.

Also, I must say I scored low on the A&P despite my thinking that I was prepared. Even now, I can say that there was no way I could have scored higher because I thought I was correct in all my answers, and I didn't second guess myself at all. That means my memory is not as good as I hoped it would be, or I overestimated myself. The only real way to do well in it is if you really absorbed the material while you were originally learning it, and I guess I hadn't.

Fortunately, I do not have time to sulk about my scores, as I am leaving for vacation first thing tomorrow. I know I tried my best under the circumstances and in the time alotted. My only regret, like I said, is not spending the past 6 months preparing more for this exam. At the same time, though, it could not have played out any other way.

So I wish you fellow applicants luck in your HESIs, and hopefully we'll see each other in the fall as nursing students!

Thank you!Have fun!

Hi junsei.Did you hear any news from the nursing department? I can't wait anymore!I'm so nervous...I know that last year they started calling people around June 8.I'm wondering if this year it's going to take longer because of HESI.I don't even know what is the HESI passing score. I got the overall score 91.7. I have the prereq GPA 4.0 and overall GPA 3.97. I'm worried about my critical thinking score which was 790. I want to call the nursing department, but I think that they are tired of getting calls.Maybe I'll wait until next Monday...

I'm new to this site but I also applied for the fall BMCC nursing program. I was told they would start calling next week to let people know they got in.

Thank you!I can't wait!Did you call the nursing department?
