Any info on ny hosp queens??

U.S.A. New York

Published

I was just hired at New York Hospital Queens and wanted to know if anyone could give me some info on the hospital? How's the staff, orientation, working environment? Thanks in advance!

Where did you see their job postings? I went to their website and they only have one listing. Is there another site?

i applied some time in May...not too sure what the process is now.

Hello everybody, I realize that this thread is old but I've just been offered a spot at NYHQ and was wondering if anybody knew the base pay per hour there and how the work environment is, or if anybody can share any type of experience :) it would be greatttlly appreciated!

I still don't get the point of BSN over ADN. I have my views about it but an RN is an RN w/ or w/out BSN. I don't want Admin but IK NYS will be making it impossible to get a job w/out BSN so that's what I have to do.

Every NYC hospital has it's own reasons for going "BSN preferred" but one thing you'll hear is that they are going for Magnet status and thus......

One main problem is that more and more only a few healthcare networks/systems are owing/running most of the hospitals in the City. Well at least the main big and or prestigious ones. This means a decision about BSN hiring can affect two, three or more hospitals.

Mount Sinai already has MS, but NS-LIJ is starting to apply for many of it's hospitals so that means Lenox Hill, Staten Island University Hospitals (both campuses) and their other facilites are "BSN preferred" Indeed NS issued a statement year or so ago that it would only hire BSN nurses after a certain future date. Know from several friends who work in that system who are ADN grads that they are pushing for them to get their four year degree.

NYP and NYU are the other systems pushing BSN as well.

Hello, congrats on the job! How did you apply for a position at this hospital? I checked their website and it wasn't very helpful. Any advice would help!

Also does this hospital hire new grads?

Thanks!

Hi, I'm actually a new grad! I had previosly volunteered at this hospital and a nurse manager reached out to me after I gradated and put me through the interview process.

Wow that's great! Seems like a lot of new grads that I know are getting jobs thru some inside connection.

I really want to work at this hospital! Thanks for the info, I'm going to look into volunteering

Anyone have up-to-date information on what it is like to work at NYHQ? Perhaps what is the nurse-satisfaction? RN-Pt ratio? The interview process? Please update if you have info- I, and of course many others, would GREATLY appreciate any advice/information!!! :)

The interview process is quite long, first you go in and speak to the recruiter, if she likes you then she'll setup an interview between you and a nurse manager of the type of floor you would like to work on. The interview with the manager is actually with a panel that consists of 4 people, the manager, two floor nurses and the recruiter sat in as well. The manager will talk to you about the floor, how many beds etc. patient ratio... Each member of the panel will ask you 1 - 2 situational/behavioral/personality type question.

Also as an fyi they said they prefer to place new grads on nights.
