Hi, I am thinking about taking a travel assignment to NM. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how tolerant the area is to lesbians.

I can speak for Albuquerque; the area seems rather tolerant and accepting AEB the large population you speak of.

hi everyboby!!!! its my first time here!!! jz wana ask, is it easy to apply for nclex in new mexico? im kat from philippines... im planning to apply nclex in NM:uhoh3:

Katlover, New Mexico (at least the north-western and Albuquerque and Santa Fe area) is VERY tolerant of lesbians and gays. I know several lesbian and gay couples who live openly and don't seem to feel pressured to 'hide' their relationships. Now the southern part of the state is a whole different story as it is more influenced by 'neighboring' states, though I've never lived there so I can't say for certain how tolerant they may be.

I agree with tencat, The Albuquerque and Santa Fe area are very tollerant and open, I can't speak for everone, I am sure that you will run into some that are not tollerant. I work with several lesbian's who are very open about thier relationships and some that have adopted children. I am not sure if there are any websites of support groups but I bet if you did some research you would be able to find some since there are a number of gay/lesbian groups in NM. Good Luck!

If you are planning to move to Albuquerque I recommend moving to the Nob Hill/UNM neighborhood. It's a very open community and close to the major hospitals. Here's a link to the local pride page...

When one of our ER docs (who has since moved on for other reasons) was at the patient room assignment board, another doc wanted to know which shift she was working: yelled out, "hey ____, what are you?" She turned around, deadpanned, "Gay", and went back to writing. The whole floor fell apart laughing.

(Northern NM)

I don't think you will have any problems in Alb or Santa Fe. I'm still a nursing student, and there have been lesbians on several of the floors I've done rotations on, and it wasn't ever an issue.

This is a great area to travel to. Lots of great hiking and camping.
