Hey everyone! Is anyone attending ocvts in September? I'm starting then and I just wanted to hear from anyone if they're going/graduated.

Thanks!

Hey! Just know your basic math going in. Towards February, you will need to know med math. They will teach it, but to get a head start you can get the books math for meds. There's formulas you need to know and remember. I hate math and I got through! You'll need to know measurement equivalents. ML-oz, etc. they will give you a sheet of paper to memorize before school starts in the mail. Know that for the first day!

For uniforms I got them at life uniform in toms river. Do yourself a favor though and check the office ..........a lot of students bring their old uniforms in for new students and they're free! Save yourself the money! Have a pair of blues and your name badge pretty early on. You won't need your white uniforms until November. You can get everything at life uniform. The name badge takes a while so order that early. A lot of people didn't have them and the teachers weren't happy. We begin clinical in November. We're in clinical until June. It varies from once a week, to a couple times a month, to five days a week towards the end of the year.

If you need anything else, ask away! I'm in the program now :)

@tperrix3 I sent you am email. Just let me know what works for you. Thank you :)

Got it! :)

I just thought if you wanted to get a hint on what we do, you can go to ocvts.org. Go to resources on the top left and click it. Then go to the lpn link. You can see our syllabus for all of the subjects we do. Just to get an idea if you're curious.

Thank you for giving me the information. What othet supplies do we need? At somepoint I guess we would need a stethescope, manual blood pressure machine, nursing bag with scissors etc. What type of shoes do you need? Can closed Crocs be used? Sorry for all the questions but I have to buy all this stuff little by little.

I'm thinking we will find out everything we need to get before school starts when we are at registration in July.. (*** name removed per ToS***) has told me some things but I think they like to wait until registration since some people don't show up.. They want to make sure your going through with program before you get everything. But I'm like you, I want to get all the essentials little by little so it's not so much.

Yes, you will need a stethoscope and wound scissors. You don't NEED a manual blood pressure cuff, but you can get one to practice. When you go into clinicals in November, the facilities have electronic blood pressure machines. You will receive a nursing bag with dressings, saline, pen light, sterile gloves, etc. so really you just need a stethoscope, wound scissors and if you'd like, a blood pressure cuff.

You need specific shoes. They have them where you get your uniforms. They must be white, completely closed (no strap) and no ties. I got the brand nurse mates. That's what they recommended and they're comfier than most. But if you find cheap ones that are white, closed in the back with no ties, get them! :)

Ps-I Got a cheap stethoscope while in school. Some students last year apparently had their stethoscopes stolen during clinicals when they had to leave them in the nurses lounge at clinical. It didn't happen this year, but just so you're aware. Don't go crazy with getting top notch :)

Thanks a lot for the information and its terrible that everyone is trying to learn and get ahead but there stealing . I won't go crazy buying high end stuff because I can't afford it, I have to budget. Thanks for the heads up on the shoes because i'm particular about what goes on my feet and if we will be standing alot I have to be comfortable.

Ok so royal blue scrubs for lab is: $16.99 for jacket, 14.49 for pants and 12.49 for top, 8.50 for patch & 8.50 for name badge. For white clinical pants 22.00 & top 24.00 those prices reflect discount. Then you have to get a cap but she didn't say how much.. She said that they have limited supply on shoes that we are allowed to wear. Also need stethescope , scissors, pen light, watch , your looking at a few hundred dollars at least

Hey! Just to add if you don't mind!

The jacket is optional. I'm normally hot, so I didn't get one at all and I was fine. I wouldn't buy the shoes there. They're very expensive. Just look around before you get everything there. The teachers give you a penlight before clinical. And if they don't, they're very cheap. Also, just get a second hand watch at Walmart for $7 ;)
