LPN prpgram at OCVTS

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hey everyone! Is anyone attending ocvts in September? I'm starting then and I just wanted to hear from anyone if they're going/graduated.

Thanks!

I'm on Team B. I love my instructors. But team A loves theirs too haha. I have just started to apply. LTC is definitely the way to go and there are some really nice ones around us. I actually enjoy LTC an subacute. For clinical, you'll go to community, Hampton ridge, sonar, Trenton state psych, meridian at wall. Places like that. It's really exciting. You can definitely start now. Why not? Just don't overdo it :) they honestly teach a whole different way and that's the way their tests are made.

Just to keep in mind. It'll be hard to juggle everything but you will figure it out! I work part time as well. It was VERY hard doing both in the beginning, but now it's very easy to do both.

hey! I just saw your post. Im in OCVTS now for LPN. you can reply to me and ill fill you in on everything you need to know :)

A&P is Structure and Function of the Human Body.

Hello I was just trying to send you a message it wouldn't let me. How is the program I passed the test and the background now I have to take the drug test and have my interview. Can you tell me what to expect on the interview. For first quarter what books do they use I want to study over the summer to have a head start if that's a good idea.

Sorry about that, I can't message yet.

The program is really great. You won't believe how much you learn in such a short amount of time. When I had my interview I was asked very simple questions.

Why do you want to be a nurse

Why do you want to do this program in particular

Do you have any medical experience

Very typical and easy. All of the teachers are very nice. And I haven't heard of anyone being turned away because of the interview! Just be relaxed and honest.

The thing is, the program goes by body system, not by subject. For example, your first part of the program is the musculoskeletal system. (Which it actually is!) you will do anatomy and physiology, fundamentals, med surg and pharmacology of the musculoskeletal system. You will take a bunch of quizzes in each subject ( just about everyday there's at least 1-3 quizzes) don't worry, it's just until December and it slows down majorly! Then you will have a correlated exam on every subject on the musculoskeletal system. A final I'd say. Then, you move onto the next system which would be the integumentary system. And you'd do all subjects but only the integumentary. It sounds confusing but it's actually a way better way of understanding!

You can study this summer if you'd like. I didn't. People told me to enjoy the summer while you could! If you're going to do anything, brush up on terminology. Mainly abbreviations. You'll get a list is specific ones to know prior to the first day. Honestly, enjoy your summer. It's going to be a rough few months, but you'll get through! Maybe brush up on A&P if you really want to. They honestly teach to the quizzes they give you though so don't over study this summer. It's just a lot because you Learn a chapter or 2 in A&P, med surg and fundamentals in one day and you have a quiz on each subject the next day. But if you find a study habit quick that works for you, you'll be fine. I went to the Barnes and noble cafe everyday after school and I still do. It totally works for me. Find what works for you. It'll be hard in the beginning. But after winter break, it slows down. Its great now. You'll make friends that you'll be friends with forever. The teachers become your friends as well. It's really really great.

Good luck and if you need anything at all, even some support, let me know!

Thank you so much I needed this information. Can I email you? Just to chat more privately. I have a med term book I can review and I am gonna get the a&p book soon and go over those two systems over the summer. Just a little to brush up since I been out of school for about 20 years. Thank you again

I am so excited I had my entrance interview with the instructors at my school and all went well. I am excited and scared to pieces because the program is 10 months fast paced but I will put my best foot forward and press my way through because this is what I want to do.

Hi Everyone,

I'll be starting the LPN program in September too. I still have medical stuff to do, but aside from that I'm just waiting to register. I'm so excited. I can't believe I'm finally going to jump in. I've done all the OCC prereqs, but I couldn't fathom waiting another year to get in. I couldn't be happier!

Anyone know which team they will be choosing?

Rose

Hi! I had my interview for the ocvts lpn program on the 23rd too. I think my appointment was either 1 or 1:30, can't remember which now. What time were you there? I had my financial aide meeting then too. It went really well. Next step is registration :) I can't wait to get started. I'm over-the-moon excited, and nervous all at the same time.
