Bergen Community Program

U.S.A. New Jersey

I was just accepted into Bergenn CC's Nursing Day program for Fall 07. I was just wondering about a few things, so anybody that has been or is currently in their program your help would be greatly appreciated.

So I know there is an orientation late August, but I would like to find out some things sooner. Besides the Criminal Background check, is there definitely a drug screening? Is that needed to register for classes as well or is that done later on?

Also, what types of materials did you need to purchase? Does the program allow PDA's and if so did you use them often?

Any adivce would be great! Thanks! :wink2:

Congrats on getting in! I hear its pretty difficult to get in to that program. If you don't mind me asking..what was you pre-requist GPA and entrance exam score? I'm not trying to be nosy (although I am being nosy) I'm just trying to figure out if I have a chance or not. Thanks!

Thank u! :)

And don't worry, you're not being too nosy haha.

Well I actually haven't even checked my score for the entrance exam yet, I'll have to get back to you on that, but I was curious if anybody knows the highest possible score you can get on the Accuplacer? That's what Bergen uses. I've heard you should be in the top 95% though, not sure though because I actually felt like I didn't do that well after taking it haha.

As for my GPA, I've had a 3.85 the past two semesters I've been doing the prereqs...I only have Microbiology left which I'm probably gonna hold off on taking until next semester.

Hope this helps!

I was just accepted also! You can get the list of books online sweetgrl, I have already ordered most of them.

I also have to take only micro - but I am going to take that next summer most likely.

MissyMarie - I thought the test was scored up to 120, but according to my test history on their website, I scored 11210, so I guess I was wrong about how they scored it.

I have a 4.0 gpa

Thanks for the info ladies! You should both be very proud of yourselves. When I called and spoke to the advisor at Bergen be told me that 600-700 people apply for 80 spots. And you guys made it in! Good for you!:balloons:

And the evening program accepts half of that number. Congrats ladies, that is a very competitive program. I took my pre-reqs at Bergen.

Congrats to the both of you. I just got accepted tooooo!!! I am so excited because I felt like I did HORRIBLE on the test. As for the drug screening I wouldn't be surprised if they did do a screening. They do it for a lot of jobs especially if you work in a hospital. And really we will be working in hospitals for clinical. As for when they will do the drug screening I don't think you will need it to register maybe just to start clinical. And as for the books lori62 how did you order them? I went on efolett but they didn't have them up yet. Sooo HELP PLEASE!!

The books are listed on the nursing departments home page. http://www.bergen.edu/pages/661.asp

There is a link for textbooks Fall 2007 SPring 2008

The first semester we take NUR 181, 182, and 183 (I believe, this is off the top of my head).

I did not order from the school bookstore, they always cost more there. I use several online sources.

Congrats mimamouse! Very exciting stuff.

Yea, I'm gonna be using other websites other than Bergen's where you can get it cheaper...cuz it's alot of books haha.

Lori62, did you order all of them already? Are any of you considering using a PDA?? I'm pretty interested in using one...and I'm assuming the program allows it because the list mentioned PDA versions.

And yea, I'm guessing the drug screening is for the clinicals...if the facility where they take place requires it.

I did order all of the books, and I am considering a PDA. I know I will then have to buy the PDA version, but I prefer to have the book version anyway, so I don't mind having both versions.

Also, there are some free PDA programs for nursing students, although not the ones that are on the book list.

Mimamouse - I also thought I did horrible on the test. But, that test is adaptable, so the more answers you answered correctly, the harder the next question was.

Yea, I think I am going to go with both as well...Looking to order all my books over the next couple weeks...The PDA would have to come later in the Summer.
