Time Ran Out! (NCLEX-RN)

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello everyone.. new here. yes I need to change my screen name because when I picked, "nurse" I was referring to student nurse.. or even IP. That's how Kaplan referred to the class... as "nurses".. But I digress...

I'm in anxiety, mild-depression mode. Yes I guess it's the typical, I cried all the way home from the exam story.. but it's my 2nd time.. I have to say the first time I went in with only attending Kaplan classes and doing some questions and maybe one chapter review of content. So when that didn't work out.. I knew I could have put in more.

[Not to make "excuses" but I'm in a nursing program where I had to continue my education into grad school. We'll save that for another forum. So there I was, wiped out from the crazy 3-year program accelerated into 15-months. We're all Bachelor-degree holders and in many cases, 2nd career changers.. but unlike BSN accelerated programs.. this is a Masters, Entry-level program.. but again I'll save all that for another forum. So... there I was 2 weeks after finishing that crazy 15-months of no sleep, and everything you remember from nursing school.. and now in Grad school.. which is the most work I have ever experienced. While detoxing and adjusting... the 10 weeks of the 1st quarter of Grad school flew and most of my classmates have already passed their boards during the quarter... and there I was with my boards in one week after finals/one week before the next quarter begins. as you can see that was unsuccessful. And now again.. I thought to myself, I'm not going in until I'm ready... that was until I saw the April 1 passing standard increase... so although things weren't "ideal" in life... grandfather extremely not doing well... just began a new quarter.. I went in with way more studying.. but feeling guilty that I didn't get to do EVERY Q-Bank question, etc.. etc.. etc...]

So now here I am, the next day... unable to really sleep or relax because... as advised, I took my time.. and time ran out when I was in my 220's or something. I am aware of the "last 60 rule" to get an estimate.. but that worries me because my last 60 is a "tiring-after-160-or-so-other-questions".

I looked throughout the board and couldn't find anything recent on anyone experiencing time running out.. I know of one person.. who purposely took the 6 hours on her 75 questions and passed. But that's it.

Anyone? :uhoh21:

Ill be praying for you!

thank u. that means more than you know, things in my life right now are putting me in a pretty bad slump. thank u so much.

I'm not sure if I'm reading your question correctly, but if I am, you already know that the last 60 questions you answered will determine whether you passed or not (if your time ran out before completing the exam). If the questions were above the passing minimum, then you passed. If they dipped below the passing standard, then you failed.

I hated every minute of preparing for that test, and the anxiety I felt just before and the two days following were nothing like I had ever known prior. I wish you the best of luck in passing this monster!

Good luck!!!How soon you will know?

hi im www

i took the nclex-pn and ran out of time at only #90. i figured i had four hours to take the test and i was going to take my time of course 45 min was br breaks and previewing ? for the test on the computer. anyway the last 60 question rule applies to me also. i dont know how i did im pretty sure i failed it because it sounds like if you ran out of time than you failed it. they say that you dont have to get all the 60 questions right but when they say you have to be above passing standards of all 60 doesnt that mean getting all 60 right or ok 59 its stupid i think they should take in considereation the whole test like everyone else just because oooooh we took 2 1/2min on each question. anyway i have no chance if thats the case good luck to you and me too i guess. www

Thanks everyone for your support. Yes these have felt like the hardest days of my life.

Wdiehl - I don't know if it's the same for PN as RN but as RNsRWe has said, they look at your last 60 without having to get all of them correct. On the NCSBN paper they give when I took the test, it says it's an "estimate" of your last 60 and that you don't have to get all last 60 correct. I know tough call. This is where major prayer comes in handy.

Arrielle - here in Cali, it can take 2 or 3 days to up to 10 days for it to be on the website. :( grueling.

I'm keeping the faith.. as much as I can at least :(

Thanks so much!

Anyone else hear of anyone running out of time?

Hi futureRNpraying2b,

I too took my nclex test 3/26/07 in CA and ran out of time on question 211. I couldn't believe that 6 hours had passed. The "last 60 rule" I guess applies to us. It just seems so unfair that some have only 75, 80 questions and their test stops at 2 1/2 hours....and they pass. I don't know what to think. My name is not on the CA bon website either. I keep looking and as of right now the site has yet to be updated from last Friday. I called the bon and they told me they couldn't see my results yet and that was after the guy questioned me when I took the test. I don't know if he really could'nt see my test results b/c they weren't up or he say that b/c he could see that I failed and said that to get me off the phone. The wait is awful. I don't know of anyone who has run out of time.

Question to all: Does anyone know anyone who ran out of time on the nclex and still passed. Tell me there is hope!!!!

Hi Beetle.. yes please keep me posted. I know it's so grueling huh? I noticed too that the last CA update was Fri :( oh good grief!!!! :( I know my Kaplan instructor told all of us to draw a turtle on our blank board to remind us the tortoise wins the race and not rush through the questions. I was calm and collective until I realized time was running out.. I hope it was enough.. I really do. I don't think I could take it if it doesn't work out. I don't want to fall behind in my Graduate program.. and also my grandfather who is on his deathbed said he would be praying for me. I know we should be doing this for us.. but I would feel awful if it didn't work out before anything happened to him :(

Let's keep praying.

FutureRN,

I'm sorry to here about your grandfather! I'm sure he's very proud of you!

I too did not rush through the exam. I focused on reading the question and using the decision tree from kaplan. I did feel as though my questions were getting harder but I could be wrong. How about you? It sounds as if we both studied hard and did our best. As each day passes I lose hope and the pressure gets worse. Have you talked to anyone who was successful even though their time ran out?

You will be in my thoughts and prayers....no news is good news and everything happens for a reason! Lets stay in touch!

futurernpraying2b & beetle01,

i'm praying for you both. beetle is right, no news is good news. there is still a chance. please do not lose hope. the website has not yet updated since the 30th. it could very well be that the bon is very much behind. also with the upgrade on raising the pass-line, maybe they hit a few technical snags. we shall see. good luck.

hey you guys

i to am loosing faith as the time goes by. i am very greatful that i found this web site it has helped me deal with the waiting and the fact that i may have to take the nclex again and that its ok. i still feel bad. i know i dont know if i failed or not thats what everybody is saying, but no one wants to listen to me, i just have this gut feeling that i failed. well i have 2 more weeks to go. does anyone out there know why the nclex-pn takes 4weeks and the rn takes 2days, its crazy there has to be a logical explanation on why. anyway im still here checking everyones experiences www:uhoh3:
