Hi!

I just graduated my nursing school and am getting ready to take the NCLEX about the end of January. I just wanted to ask about what ideas you have about studying for it. Like what to really focus on, or do I have to know such deep A&P or more of the nursing care of the patient?

I have 2 NCLEX help books (one a Saunders and the other a HESI book with NCLEX tips) and I am regestered to rnquiz.com and my friend is going to help teach me while she learns on the Kapalan. Is there anything I am missing that I should be adding to this? I also have medication flash cards too.

You need to know more nursing care and critical thinking type concepts. A&P, micro, etc will not be emphasized much at all, IMO you should not waste your time reviewing them. These questions are not going to be knowledge based at all. They will involve, what you, the entry level nurse, will do in various situations (ie. what will you do first in an emergency, what pt will you see first in the morning, etc). I found Kaplan to be invaluable when I was studying for boards, as it really helped with critical thinking skills and more involved questions.

Hi there....
I used the Saunders book to review my content and the medications and I used the Kaplan q-bank for practice. I think that Kaplan was key to my success because it helped me gain confidence and experience answering questions. In my opinion Kaplan's questions were trickier then the boards were, but on the boards the answers were trickier. Really know your infections diseases!!!!

I took the test again, on the 4th of December, I thought that I was doing every thing right the first three times, until a great gal told me about marlene Hurst and her review book/course. I too used the hesi and scored good on that, gratuated in the top 20% of my class and used the RNquiz.com- they didn't work. But she breaks it down to the basics and about knowing your core content inside out. I say if your going to spend money on anything she's the best thing out there. Good luck on your boards.

The NCLEX-RN is really focused on prioritizaiton, delegation and infection control. The Kaplan QBank has good questions to practice. I also tried the NCSBN website also. Just make sure that the questions you do as you review are NCLEX-RN style...answering just knowledge level questions won't help. Good luck!

Suggest you consider using Suzanne's plan with the Saunders text. You can read about it in the stickies at the top of this forum.

I'm taking the test for LPN on Friday Jan.9th, are they different then RN? Any tips?

I used saunders, not just review question but all types of review topics. There is a bunch of stuff that your teachers didn't have time to teach in school but may be on NCLEX. Many teachers told me not to worry about drugs. Alot of the test had drugs, labs, and specific diseases that you can critically think through. If you get it wrong it asks another similar type question again.
