Please help!!failed test

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

hello all, i am new to the website and was told to come here for help and some words of encouragement. I just found out this morning that i failed on my first attempt for the NCLEX-PN. I am very devastated and feeling very down. My test was ridiculous, i went all the way to 205, i had EVERY test area including about 50% of my test being pharm. I had a lot of delegation and priority, and many SATA's. I have been crying for two days, very upset. I used Saunders book more than anything, and also used my HESI study book, i also did saunders cd rom. I definately did well over 2000 maybe 3000 questions and now after taking the test i realize what a lot of people on this site are saying is true, those questions seem to easy and the NCLEX ones are much harder. I have a few questions that i hope you all can help me with.

1. Does anyone know of a good delegating/prioritizing book? If so please let me know!!

2. I was told that you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can take the exam again, does anyone know how I go about or who to talk to to find this information out? I want to plan to take the test the first week of Oct- giving me the whole month of Sept to study. I wasnt sure if i should register again now, or if i have to go through process again?

3. What other books did everyone use that were really really helpful??

I also would like to know a good book about the strategy test taking skills for the NCLEX, as we all know most questions on the test you are taking an educated guess because it is impossible to know all of that information!! There has to be a strategy to weed out these answers and i think i really need help on that....

4. I have Saunders questions and answers yellow third edition book... should i go buy the comprehension saunders book???

Sorry for any phrases that might not make sense, my nerves are shot as i sit here typing this because my anxiety level is through the roof

thanks!!:scrying:

If you do need to brush up on your content, i would recommend saunders comprehensive, i used it and found it useful. There is a strategies book by Kaplan i believe its purple in color, many people have used this book (including myself) and have found it very helpful.

thank you very much i will look into these

I have the Kaplan book 2009 ed. that I would be happy to send you but it's for the NCLEX-RN and I don't think we can share private info over this site. It does give strategies on how to pass the test but the truth is if you don't know the answer, it's just an educational guess; I found through my studies that either the longest or the shortest answer is correct most of the time but that doesn't really ensure choosing the right answer because then you are down to deciding which one seems right and if you have no idea it's a 50/50 chance.

As to when you are able to retake-my friend failed the NCLEX-RN and has a 45 day waiting period before she can re-apply. You probably need to contact your state bon and whichever testing company you used.

Best wishes in your endeavor.

Sorry to hear you failed. I would not recommend you rush to resit the exam. Time will vary depending on your BON/BRN but look on a average of 45 or 90 days. Some states will require you re apply to resit and pay a small fee others do not. The BON should indicate what you have to do when you get your paperwork.

Sorry to hear you did not pass. Anyway my advise for you is simple. Relax and take 2-3day @ most to think on what you can do best in other to succeed next time. At time we student we make mistake regarding how we study. At times we all find it hard to believe, why did i fail?

Question we all need to ask our self:

1- what is CAT? It's tailored to match our individual competences level. we all have different level of competences.

2- what are the minimum and maximum question? All candidate are required to answer @ least 60/70 question correctly and 15 question are sample question which are outscored.

What's Test Anxiety and how to deal with it?

1-feeling insecure about our performance

2-worry over something you've no control over

3-thinking about what people might feel if you failed

4- unpreparedness

5- worry about time allotted to finish the test

5 Bad habit of anxiety

1- smoking or drinking more frequently

2- biting nails, fidgeting with hairs etc

3- trouble falling asleep

4- daydreaming

5- eat more/less food

All these factors contribute to inability to perform effectively while preparing for an exam. I know is not possible to eliminate all these, but always keep them under control. Always have it in mind the exam is given in other to test your ability but not to punish you. look at the exam as not being forced on you, but as a requirement to move up in your career.

How is your study environment? Try to study in a quite zone with less distraction and external noise because they will interfere with the ability to concentrate and learn. Study in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

how long did you study? Dont study for long hours! you might end up not understanding but cramming!!

Do you have study mate? study with others who you think have the same ability or know more than you. If you're an average student, do not study with student who always made A's because they will always skip material that's necessary for you to review. Neither study with student who made C's because they will end up having to study material is of no importance.

keep sufficient time available for you to study on your own and never study too long with your study group. Keep your study group serious.

Keep the study group small, because if the study group are large, there is a greater tendency to become distracted.

Do not come for study review unprepared!!

used prepared test question in the review book as a guide to help out.

Take the comprehensive test at the back of the test.

Always test in a test mode i other to keep track of your performance

Develop used of flash cards

Pause after reading and jot down the important point for reference

Take a practice test that you think will be included in the test

Review the area of weakness first in other to have time to review again before the exam

After a month of studying practice the pretest/comprehensive test at the back of the study guide to see how you're doing. Have you improved?

Relax a day before the exam and get sufficient sleep. you need to be physically and mentally alert!!

wish you the best in your next test!!!

thank you so much for the kind words, i very much appreciate it!! I am feeling in the dumps but im trying to get over feeling so horrible about myself and moving on to being focused.

I did Hurst for content and Kaplan for question strategy. I passed NCLEX with 100 questions first time in July. Good luck!
