Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I have now failed the nclex four times and need support and encouragement. It feels like your the only one going through the struggle but i know there are many others who feel the same way. I hate when i start to question if i was meant for this field, but its an unfair assessment when i havent' even had the chance to test my skills on the floor. This test makes me feel I am not smart enough. I struggled through school with testing but i made it through like everyone else. Nursing school is tough but time is ticking and sometimes i feel like all the experience is gone and my schooling never happened but i keep studying here and there and trying to pick myself up and solve my weak areas. So many times it feels like content but then it also feels like i just suck when it comes to critical thinking but my decisions are not far of. I simply get through the whole test so it really cant decide if i am safe or not when i am weaving over and under the line. I get it! the whole testing thing is to make sure we are safe practictioners and understand the importance of taking care of people's lives. I understand why i need to show the computer i am capable so that keeps me grounded. I am just at a standstill on what i need to do to change my way of thinking to pass this test. Just needed to vent. THank you if you took the time to read this thread. God bless!

So sorry to hear about your situation and albeit discouraging, only the strong survives!! Do not give up now and let all those years of school be a waste. A few questions...

Not sure which nursing program you completed, but do you think your sufficiently provided you with content, resources and everything to pass the nclex?

As far as previous means of preparations, what resources did you use? I can absolutely suggest some that will be very helpful to you...

And lastly, if you plan on retaking (which you should), have you signed up for a date yet and if not, when do you plan on retaking?

This too shall pass! If you can pass nursing school, the nclex is absolutely doable!

Some people just do not test well. If you have gone over the parts of the test that you are not doing well--from the reports that you get after taking the test, then be sure that you are re-looing at those sections in your books.

If there is a study group you can join, do it. If you can take a prep course, do it. You also may want to speak to someone regarding any test anxiety, as well as your school if you have learning issues that make it difficult for you to test. Look at every option. Even a tutor if that is what it takes.

Finally, look at it in a slightly different way. DO NOT read into questions. Take them at face value. DO NOT invest tons of time re-reading, looking over, whatevering--read the questions, read the answers, pick your first instinct and move on. DO NOT go back and start changing answers (unless you are 500% sure that you misclicked).

I am also a huge fan of the note paper. Quickly write down your general formulas you may need to use as far as meds.

Best wishes
