List of tips compiled during Kaplan classroom course

I'll add a few:

Techniques for certain types of questions (3 main questions: ER, phone calls, report)

1. ER Questions: See most unstable client first

2. Phone Call Questions: Expected abnormal vs unexpected abnormal (ex. return call to pt. who has unexpected abnormal)

3. Priority Questions (taking report on 4 pt): Acute vs chronic (ex. always see most acute question first)

** You know it's an acute vs chronic question when you see time intervals in each answer.

Other tips:

- The word restless is another word for HYPOXIA (ex. pt. is restless, agitated etc. check airway most likely the answer)

- The bigger the incision on a pt. the more acute they become (apply this to acute vs chronic questions)

- Heroin = check respiratory. Cocaine / Methamphetamine = check cardiac. (usually an ER question / withdrawal)

- Don't delegate what you can EAT (Evaluate, Assess, Teach)

- Answer says "obtain equipment" is also the same as leave the patient. NEVER leave the patient.

- Confusion is NEVER normal. (even in dementia, confusion is NEVER normal) Always further evaluate confusion in a patient if it's in the question.
