I'm so ANGRY!!!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

This post is about my fiance.... we both went to nursing school together, both got the same grades...we graduated in june and took the NCLEX in July (both studied using saunders)..... I passed and she failed (265 questions)..... she was upset (understandable) and hit the books and studied using exam cram...took the exam the 2nd time and failed(265 questions)....she then hit the books AGAIN...using Kaplan material...and went to the Kaplan courses. She took the exam two days ago...her 3rd time(75 questions).I was almost 100 percent sure she passed. Today...on Thanksgiving morning we found out she failed...we're both devastated. I dont understand how people who were complete IMBESILS that were in our graduating class (I mean they were barely passing exams and asked the DUMBEST questions in class) passed the NCLEX from the first time. After I took the NCLEX I thought I failed for sure....I was trully surprised that I passed. Since then I've been working for 3 months in a local ER as a staff nurse. I'm just really pissed off at all this. My fiance is a great nurse and I dont understand why they make the NCLEX so damn retarded. What do we do at this point. I know she has the knowlege to pass. She's broken down and needs some words of encouragement and advice.

I've read that some people try to apply "real world" nursing with "NCLEX" nursing.

What you would do in real life, may not be what you have to do to answer a NCLEX question.

Tell her to keep her head up, and keep trying. She is obviously smart enough, proven by making it through nursing school. Please keep her motivated to not give up.

Kevin,

I'm sorry that this has happened to your fiance. I know that it's frustrating to see people who seem to be less intelligent in school graduate, and you study your brains out and don't do well. I'm really sorry.

I don't know if someone has mentioned this, but the moderator of this forum, Suzanne4, has a program for NCLEX-RN (and PN) test-takers. She's had quite a bit of success with it, and I suggest that she try that. Send Suzanne4 a PM with your fiance's email address on it along with what she has tried before, what hasn't worked for her. Suzanne uses Saunder's with her students. That's something to try.

Don't give up, OK?

Kevin - Not sure if you ever got your answer to the number of times one can take the NCLEX in your state of NY, but NY has no limit to the number of times you can take it. Here is the link to that information: http://www.virtualnursinghome.com/licensure.htm

No doubt.

I agree with taking a break, she is probably too frustrated right now to take it, it will just set her up for another heartbreaking failure...but don't give up. The NCLEX is hard, it has so many answers that seem right, but (as you know) you have to pick the best one. Just keep up the encouagement, she can do this.

And as far as "imbeciles" I know what you mean I have had some fellow students that you wonder how they tie their shoes in the morning et alone pass nursing school. And I have seen some really incredibally book smart people that absolutely cannot apply it to the floor work.

Take care and good luck! :)

I wonder if she ever passed?

ETA: I think she passed, because the OP refers to his wife, and RN in a recent thread....

I would highly encourage your fiance to take a deep breath and go through Suzanne's plan...I'm a student, but I can speak to how I have read countless success stories of her study plan.

Suzanne's stickys will actually tell you HOW the NCLEX is set up, and that seems to be the key to understanding what it's testing for.

New Grads here SWEAR by it!
