I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

Nursing Students NCLEX

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

As with soooo many before me.... I am sick to my stomach about NCLEX... I just took it yesterday, and I don't feel good about it. It stopped at 85 q's. I've seen Tons that have passed with that score, but i think that is a little squewed because not many probably post their results if they failed with 85 d/t being embarrassed. i cried before i got to the test, and cried after. I don't know what to do... I live in Cali... i'm just hoping that I get my results sooner than a month. I used the Kaplan Q-bank online... it actually asked the questions in the same manner that NCLEX did. I want so much to pass, as with all of you.... but i dont feel that confidence like i did with school and all my tests there. I was an A student. So many thoughts.... so many.... I am driving my co workers, friends and family nuts with my anxiousness... I told them to all call the bvnpt and tell them that if they don't give me my results soon, they will all go crazy. So many shuda woulda coulda's in terms of NCLEX....:barf01:

It's so important to remember - you don't have to know everything!

is it true that if you take your test in the morning it easier, compared to the afternoon?

I wish there were truth in that.... the test is Adaptive.... so it doesn't matter when or where you take it... Its all the same

is it true that if you take your test in the morning it easier, compared to the afternoon?

Sounds like an urban legend to me - maybe if you just drank a lot of coffee!

don't worry thread, I took 85 questions and I passed. I read the rule which told me if the computer feel you still above the average, the computer will continue give you chances to move on. (if you are not that bad!). On the other hand, the result will be mailed to you in 4 weeks. be patient and good luck

Yes, it makes perfect sense - if you did fail at 85 questions, that means you did so badly, you can't redeem yourself in more than one hundred questions that come after the first 85. That's pretty unlikely. Mind shut off very early - not sure when since I wasn't paying attention to the number. I was really scared because I know I missed some. Even so, when the computer determines your "skill level," this means you are getting about fifty percent right. This makes no sense to me, but this is the way it is!

I think the reason so many people leave worried is that the computer turns off when (and if) you start to miss questions. The test taker is probably saying, "Oh no, I'm doing really badly," when the computer is thinking (if computers think) oh, the person is getting fifty percent wrong. Let's just hope you're getting fifty percent wrong at a high skill level. It still boggles my mind to understand how this works. One thing I think we all forget is around ninety percent of both PN annd RN testers pass. It's a little lower for the RN test. Why do we all stress out about it so much when the stats are on our side?

hahaha.... we stress because we are scared of being the 10% that fail.... hahah... but i know what you are saying...

Just an FYI.... called California Boards and they are processing exams from 11/15..... so they are making good time! probably because its the holidays and not as many testing?? (one can wish right??)

Hello I know you took the Nclex while back but I am taking it Jan and I also got saunders I know you went through the book.... i wanted to know that did you just went through the questions or actually read the whole book again...I don't I am just to find out what should I do and plus what books should I get to prepare for the nclex I have saunders and I am also going to the Seminar that is provided by Hprovider....PLZ HELP.....any advise or suggestions are very welcome!!!! thank you!!

Fun Nurse - yeah!

I definitely felt like I was one of the "special" ten percent that bombed. Only the truly egotistical "know" they passed - ha!

But still, considering the odds, they're on our side! I would be interested to know why the small group doesn't make it (I have still to take the NCLEX-RN!) My ideas:

Test anxiety - probably biggest reason

Not prepared - but who can be totally prepared? Plus you can't be that prepared. because it's about scenarios, not hard facts.

Bad break - your cat died the night before, etc.

Test related bad break - it just so happens that the test "discovered" your weak area and went to town on it! I would have been in bad shape if I got a lot of meds, and some people do. My guess is I aced it on the first med, but it was an educated guess, because I didn't know.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go over our exams? I really want to know why it kept throwing the same easy math problem at me. It was the same set-up, just different numbers. I began to worry that it would keep asking it until I got it right. I am quite certain I did get it right, right down to the placement zero. There was nothing tricky about it - I had to figure out the amount of mls based on what was on hand. It's a mystery to me! Maybe the computer has a personality, and it was giving me a break - not!

If anybody who didn't pass reads this, I think the anxiety issue is probably the big issue. I kept telling myself, "relax, no big deal - if I don't pass, I'll take it again." Just imagine if it was a one strike and you're out situation. Now, THAT is anxiety!

gosh i am so nervous. i took my test last week on wednesday and i stopped at 85. i seriously felt so unsure of myself walking out of there. i got sooo many select all that apply and a TON of meds!! most of them, ive never heard of before! ill be here for support until my results get here in about another 3 weeks...being in california sucks. but i wanted to cry coming out of there...ive always aced my tests in school and this one seemed to be getting more and more difficult. im so nervous that i failed
