Question Regarding Non-degreed RN in CA, with a BSN.
Hello, I am currently an LVN in a BSN program in California. I am now eligible to sit for boards as a Non-degreed RN. I have a job lined up for me and want to start as soon as possible. I am still going to continue my with my BSN. I also plan on going into a nurse anesthetist program after a year or two. My question is this: If in the event I decide to move away AFTER I get my BSN, will my Non-degreed RN license affect me in any way? This is a very small possiblilty that we will move away since my husband is a Correctional Officer for the state of California. Any advice would be appreciated. Sincerely, NursesRFun

There is no wait list for the program. You have to apply and and they either accept or reject you. You have to write an essay (which, i appologize, i no longer remember what it had to be on... LoL). If you don't get it you have to wait a full year before you can submit another app. The LVN-BSN program is a total of 15 months. That doesn't include your pre-req's and and other general ed classes. You can techniquely test for your RN after your Leadership course, which is about 7 months after you start the program. But some people don't recommend it... something about then being a non-degreed, certificate nurse on your license.... which i guess can give you some problems if you plan on living out of state. But i'm not exactly sure on the specifics of that because I do plan to test after december. It seems like a good program up front (after actually being able to speak to someone in the nursing dept). I got accepted in october and didn't actually get any more info from the dept until 2 weeks before, then they needed me to get ALL this stuff done, like obtaining Malpractice insurance, doing a background check, getting evidence of medical coverage, etc. Oh and they charge you 1500 bucks for supplies which includes a PDA for nursing software, your uniforms, and this ATI testing program, which has its users passing NCLEX at 99%. I will make this post public because i think it could be of benefit to others. Let me know if you have any other questions!!

I am starting the April co-hort this Monday at NU. I am doing the LVN to BSN program, and it only took me 4.5 months to get a response from them.... but i hear that this is very uncommon. I attended orientation and many people that I talked to waited up to a year to find out- some say they even lost their application or claimed to never have received it. I suggest that you send your app registered mail so they have no excuse. Also, it is very hard to contact the nursing dept directly, and the general counselors do not have the best info. BUT i currently work for a hospital that has NU students doing their clinical rotations at and i speak to them frequently. They have told me that after everything gets going, its not that bad, and they actually do have quality teachers there. lecture is usually 1x a week with clinicals about 2x a week. It is kinda expensive...

You can not check on the website until you have paid your License fee.... they don't issue you a license number until after you pay that 135 buckaroos! so there is no way around it.... GRRRRRR! Day 5 of the wait....

:uhoh21:Gawd.... i took my yesterday and it stopped at 85 as well!! i don't know what to think of the Forsaken test. I tried so hard but felt like i knew nothing... it was such a humbling experience. i want to cry right now. I did soooo many review questions.... Used the Kaplan q bank. I felt like the things that i was really really prepared for weren't even asked! Lab values.... i didn't even have 1 question i think. i got lots of communication questions and q's regarding Employee teaching! the med questions i did get were regarding digoxin. i hope that the reason they didn't give me many more med questions was cuz i got those right... but OMG i feel soooo stupid right now. I'm in California so its going to be a looooong greuling wait.

I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.
As with soooo many before me.... I am sick to my stomach about NCLEX... I just took it yesterday, and I don't feel good about it. It stopped at 85 q's. I've seen Tons that have passed with that score, but i think that is a little squewed because not many probably post their results if they failed with 85 d/t being embarrassed. i cried before i got to the test, and cried after. I don't know what to do... I live in Cali... i'm just hoping that I get my results sooner than a month. I used the Kaplan Q-bank online... it actually asked the questions in the same manner that NCLEX did. I want so much to pass, as with all of you.... but i dont feel that confidence like i did with school and all my tests there. I was an A student. So many thoughts.... so many.... I am driving my co workers, friends and family nuts with my anxiousness... I told them to all call the bvnpt and tell them that if they don't give me my results soon, they will all go crazy. So many shuda woulda coulda's in terms of NCLEX....:barf01:

Who took the NURSE out of Nursing?
You are very right in regards to the Knowledge base. I agree.... Maybe i should have elaborated on the Knowledge portion.... But Knowledge isn't everything. I have met a nurse who was Suma cumlaude (sp?) of her class, had all the knowledge, but was still just a Rock when it came to patient care and caring in general for her patients.

Who took the NURSE out of Nursing?
Thank you, Thank you Thank you.... For having the Guts to say what you said. Nursing is not for everyone. It take a certain compassion....a drive if you will.... to be a GOOD nurse. It really saddens me that our profession is sometimes only seen as a good Paycheck.... When i ask Fellow nurses or Student nurses why they went into nursing and they say, "The Money".... its like hearing nails on a chalkboard to me. it drives me up the wall seeing what is going on around our nursing floors. Yes, we are understaffed. Yes, we are overworked. Yes, politics gets in the way at times. But lets face it. This is NOTHING new. And having "warm" bodies around with us isn't going to help a thing.
