How to retake NCLEX RN; ATT still valid

Hi, I'm a bit confused about the reapplication for the NCLEX RN exam. Unfortunately, I failed twice, and I'm trying to reapply to take it for the 3rd time. OK, the first time I failed, I sent my application to retake & fees to the BRN CA almost when my ATT expired; I got my eligibility and registered at Pearson VUE and got my new ATT; I took the exam and failed the 2nd time. After talking to a friend, he said that if my ATT is still valid when I want to schedule my next exam, I don't have to reapply to the BRN CA. All I had to do is register at Pearson VUE again and just pay the $200 exam fee.

So if my ATT is still valid, do I still have to send my application to retake the NCLEX-RN for CA? I already registered on Pearson VUE back in November 2011, but my request is still "new," so I can't schedule my exam; plus, my waiting period from my 2nd fail is well over 45 days. It's been two months, and my request is still "new."

Here's how it works (according to NCSBN) if you had eligibility, had an ATT, and took the exam and you did not pass., you have to re-apply to BON and have them re-evaluate your papers. And then, you'll get your eligibility and pay 200 again to Pearson Vue to have an ATT and then schedule your exam.

No, you need a new ATT each time you take NCLEX! Even if you have one, that is still valid.

hi adrienne15! WE OR THE SAME SITUATION! I sent my reapplication last November too. And now they told me I need to pass a lot of documents. I did not understand, though it was my second time taking it. I applied in CA.. let me know what they say to you.

It doesn't matter if your ATT is still valid; it is only "good" for one sitting of the NCLEX. If you fail to pass the NCLEX, you need to reapply to the BON and re-register at PV, and pay the $200

If you are an internationally educated nurse, it may be because CA BRN seems to be enforcing requirements for eligibility to sit for the NCLEX. If you check the international forums, there are several posts relating to the NCLEX retakes at CA BRN. Many are reporting that they were previously eligible for the NCLEX RN ATT, and when they failed & resubmitted, are now asked for additional documentation, denied for various reasons--additional theory/clinical hours needed in psych, OB, and med surgical; clinical and theory not held concurrently.

Bringing up an old thread since I'm in the same dilemma. I think it's kinda absurd to have to reapply to the BON just to retake the exam.

I'm not sure if it is the same with all states, but Texas BON makes you go through the entire application process, which includes the $125 fee, fingerprint card, etc. What makes it worst is they won't let you use the online application since it is only for first-time applications.

For all states, the ATT is only valid for one attempt at the exam. Some states do vary, however, in re-applying.

I got a question for adrienne15. In your post, you mentioned that on your second attempt, when you applied and got your eligibility through the CA board, how long do you have to wait after submitting your retake application? Actually, I am freakin out. It's going to be a month in April 2014. I have not heard from the CA board yet, and neither have they processed my fee for the retake exam, which is 150 dollars. It's my second attempt, and all they want is to send them to retake the application along fee. I did that. Do you think it's a normal time frame to process an application for 2nd attempt, or do I need to send them a reminder along with the fee once again? I will greatly appreciate any help regarding my question.

What if the att already lapsed and you failed to sit for an exam? Do we need to pay Pearson Vue only or do the Entire Process again? (For NY state).
