How I passed the NCLEX in 75 questions

The NCLEX is the final step for us nursing students and it's one that we all dread. It was all I could think about for the month and a half that I had to prepare. I used Kaplan throughout this study process, my school required me to buy Kaplan so I went to the class in addition to using all of the tools online. I did about half of the Q-bank questions and all of the question trainers. I averaged a 58% on the Q-bank questions and a 57% on the Question trainers. Obviously I didn't get that elusive 65 every time but you can still be successful if you don't. The most important thing that I did throughout my studying was to master the decision tree. I tried to use it on every question and it helps you figure out the answer when you have no clue what the answer is (which lets be honest is often). If you can't take the class, buy the Kaplan book at the book store. They do a wonderful job at preparing you for what to expect and will make the NCLEX seem a lot less daunting. And don't be discouraged if you don't do well on a quiz every now and then. It's normal and totally ok. Prepare, learn how to answer the questions with the decision tree, do a lot of questions, and don't forget to relax and enjoy yourself every now and then. You can pass the NCLEX in 75 questions too :) Good luck everybody!!!

congrats on passing!! but please dont spread false rumors. the decision tree does NOT work on NCLEX(atleast for the most part) that is a lie told by kaplan! you can pass without wasting time on that decision tree crap! I tried using it for my NCLEX and it did not help me at all!! most of it is based on content and if you dont know the material then you are screwed!

kaplan was waste of time and money. I should have stuck with PDA and saunders instead.

The most important thing that I did throughout my studying was to master the decision tree. I tried to use it on every question and it helps you figure out the answer when you have no clue what the answer is (which lets be honest is often).

I did take the Kaplan Review Class so learned the Decision Tree but never truly mastered it on my own and used it to study. I'm going to go back and do that as it can't hurt and very well may make a difference! And I did pay a lot of money to practice a ton of questions using it in the Review Class! My anxiety is high and this may be what I need to make me feel better to recall the content.

Like most exam strategies and tools such as this one, it truly may not be for everyone. Maybe it's more of a psychological thing for some that helps bring down their anxiety so the content can be recalled. Clearly, NCLEX can be passed without it and there are people who swore by it who've failed the NCLEX.
