Flipping Out!!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Okay, so, I took NCLEX two days ago - this past Wed morning. I was very nervous going into the exam, and barely slept the night before, but oddly enough I was overall pretty confident with my answers - it seemed to be a lot of basic safety and generally easy questions (this worries me), but then again, I did take a 2 week Kaplan course in June, did countless questions and studied my *ss off for 3+ weeks beforehand (Saunders, Chicago Review, Kaplan, NCSBN website, a couple of audio books from iTunes, questions I downloaded on my iPad, etc). I got 75 questions and the computer shut off. I felt really confident that I answered nearly everything correctly - got a lot of select all that apply questions, but felt comfortable with my answers and there were only one or two questions where I felt like I had no idea what the answer was. Anyway, the 75 questions took me a little over an hour - no math, not a lot of pharma, and no hot spot or sound type of questions, just tons of SATA's. I walked out of there with my head high and then it hit me - IF IT FELT TOO EASY, I PROBABLY FAILED!!!

Now in my practice tests it was similar - I'd go through them thinking I aced them and would only get 50-70% so now of course I'm wondering if I failed. To make matters worse, I get home to do the Pearson Vue test and I get a NEUTRAL popup - "The candidate currently has test results that are on hold. A new registration cannot be completed at this time."

I chatted with a classmate who also got 75 questions, thought it wasn't so hard, also got that same pop up and he actually passed, so I started to feel better. HOWEVER, two days later and I can't even get my quick results! I'm being told that my test results are not available and when I called Pearson Vue, they said that it's technically two business days and I have to wait until Monday! (meanwhile I thought it was within 48 hours - other classmates have gotten their results within one day).

Do you think I failed? Did I take the test too quickly and they're questioning my results thinking I cheated? I'm really worried because I have a job waiting for me that I can begin orientation for in October, so it would be awful if I failed since I don't think they'll hold the job for me :(

Well best of luck. I too tested Thursday and it says my results are on hold.

Oh goodness! Same deal here: I didn't feel like I rocked it but had a good helping of SATA and got cut-off at 75. From what I've read here and elsewhere, results could be held for any number of reasons ranging from palm ID scan issues, getting up without raising your hand, finishing abnormally early etc. They'll review your test and if everything checks out you'll get your results. The hold pop-up isn't indiciative of pass/fail at this point so keep your chin up, breath deeply, and test your patience the very best you can while you await results. We're waiting with you-- you got this :)

thank you both! I really don't feel like I can relax until I know! Hopefully I passed, but at this point, if I failed, I'd like to just know and get it over with, argghh!!

Couldn't agree more. I'd rather know than have to wait for days. I was hoping to have relaxed this weekend but hasn't happened yet. Hopefully on Monday we will know. Please keep us updated. Im thinking mine is on hold bc of fingerprints since I had such bad luck with them while applying. Who knows but im thinking its not a pass the longer I wait.

Oh my my! Let me get tha super polygrip, pop in these here woodn dentures and tell you when some of us gals worked as grad nurses while waiting to see if we passed our boards. First of all, the boards were about 3 months after graduation... on paper. Then we had the joy of waiting til December --- DECEMBER!!! to get our license in the mail, or an application to sit for boards again. As much as it was torturous, it was not as bad as it is for you today! Our instant society makes my waiting almost 6 months for my license, nothing! So I hope you all get a speedy answer. I know you will pass!!!

Makes me feel silly when you put it into perspective. Foot in mouth :)

LOL MomaNurse!! yep, my foot is in my mouth too :) times are definitely a changin.

Quick update - still nothing, but I suppose Pearson Vue still has a few hours to get my quick results to me. I called NCSBN just now and they "looked me up" - she said my results would be posted soon and if I don't see them in another day or two, to call them back. Another day or two???? WTH?

So I know this is going to sound crazy, but I didn't like the tone in her voice - she was very nice and sweet and I felt like she could clearly see that I failed and she was almost biting her tongue. Yep, I'm nuts, I know, but I also think I failed... something in my gut just tells me... the next few hours are going to suck.

thank you for graciously listening to my whining.

Momanurse.....you also forgot to mention that boards were 2 days of testing..... 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon!

They packed mine into one whole day. Ushered us all in for one section... Then out... Then in for the next... Then out... Then, well you get the picture. All day, hundreds of us. Goodness. Makes me seasick just thinking about it.

But I meant what I said sincerely. You newbies are used to instant results, and it has to be making you crazy!! Anyone find out yet???

I got my results this afternoon-- I passed! Made the wait worth it :) Keeping fingers crossed for Type1Nurse2b and nursemami4!

yay! congrats bmendi!!

update for me (yes another) - turns out, because I entered the testing room with my insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor (I have T1 diabetes), they placed my results on hold to observe the footage and triple check my test to rule out cheating. I'm furious because I told the lady at the testing center I could take my insulin pump off for a couple of hours and just leave it in my locker, but she said they let testers in with medical devices all the time and it won't be a problem. Apparently, NCSBN told me that even though they're legally required to do this, they also have to fill out an incident report documenting that it happened, ugh! They said I should receive my results either last night or today - still nothing. SO frustrating - it's been almost a week!!
