Failed NCLEX RN 3 times

Hi - I wish I could give you information about the requirements of the 4th attempt, but I don't know. I just wanted to share that I did the Kaplan review course and found it extremely helpful. I'm not sure if you have done this yet, but I would recommend it. I would do a question trainer or 75 questions from the question bank, analyze my test and see where my weak areas were and remediate from that point on. I spent about 3 weeks doing this because it was around Christmas and New Years. I hope this helps in some way! Good luck. Don't give up!

I totally feel your frustration. I am in Colorado as well. I passed the NCLEX-RN on the third try! I was very worried because I live in Colorado also. I didn't want to investigate that "Three Time" rule too much, but from what I understand, when getting started on your fourth attempt, you will need to take a refresher course and submit that to them in order to obtain your ATT. I may be wrong, but that is what I gathered from the little research I did. I did not want to jinx myself.

I know it was devastating for you to have failed the third attempt. I honestly thought I would never pass it. I did the Hurst Review for my second attempt (FAIL!) and it was great for content. I then tried Kaplan but that whole strategy thing just did not work for me. I am not sure exactly how I came upon the review THAT WORKED FOR ME, but it is the NCSBN Review. This review is from the same people who write the NCLEX!! How amazing is that? It is also very friendly on your pocket. I took the 3 week course for $50. They have other lengths available, but I wanted to get it over with. Realize it is the same content, just spread out into a longer timeframe of 5, 8, or 15 weeks. Who wants to study for 15 weeks?? :roflmao:Not me!

The course sections are in an outlined, bulleted format, for each body system and then of course a sections for Management & Delegation, Safety & Infection Control, etc.

I believe there are about 1300 questions!! :cheeky: That's where the money is at!! :cheeky: Answer all of those questions!! RIGHT or WRONG!! Things you get wrong, write them down, go back to that particular content area and UNDERSTAND why you got them wrong! You will see them again! I promise! Also, they use A.D.A.M. in the review for illustrations. It will be the same on the NCLEX.

Put your heart and soul into this three week review, and you will never have to worry about it again!! I wish I had done that about $1,000 ago!

I live in colorado and I failed the NCLEX- RN a total of 3 times and found out that, that is the maximum amount of times I can take it in the state of colorado. I can send in a written waiver to ask to take it a fourth time. Has anyone else been in a similar situation. If so any advice on how to prepare for the NCLEX and what the requirements are to be allowed to test again before having to try in a different state. Thanks.

What would your evidence be to support the BoN waiving their rule and allowing you to do what others cannot (take the exam a fourth time)?

If your State requires a refresher course, that would be advisable. It is also possible for you to apply to another State for licensure, and if you meet their criteria they will issue you an ATT for NCLEX (again). Once you have a license in another State, you can request Colorado issue you a license by endorsement; be aware that they are not required to do so. If they have any further requirements prior to a license being issued, you'll have to meet them.

What does you performance report say?

The issue may not necessarily the source of the review, but how one approaches the NCLEX itself: understanding the four concepts of becoming a competent, entry-level nurse:

1. Safe, effective care;

2.Health promotion;

3.Physiological Integrity;

4.Psychosocial integrity

Will determine WHAT the question is asking you; the question may be Respiratory related-but is it a Health Promotion or a Safety, or a Physiological or a Psychosocial one? Would you know the difference and choose the BEST answer?

Once one understands the concepts of NCLEX, they can do so successfully.

Don't look at content; you know most of the material because you passed nursing school; begin to do questions related to each concept; review questions and rationales; ANY rationale you struggle with, THEN review content. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Also, find out what concept you are having weaknesses in your report, then give those questions priority in your review.

If you are required to take a refresher course, then look into taking one as well.

Same boat here! I applied to test out of a different state. I'm retesting in March. Its been awhile since I finished school, so I will be starting the NCBSN review today. I feel like I was so close in the past :***: I'm just not sure where to go from here. My head will be in books/questions for 4-5 hours each day. Wish me luck
