Failed NCLEX PN, desperately need help :(

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi everyone, my name is Samantha. I graduated PN school 5/2011 and have been busy going back to school every since. I'm trying to get pre-reqs out of the way incase I decide to bridge into the RN program. I got so crammed with my new school work that I didn't have much time to focus on my ATI - which I know is a horrible excuse. I just took the NCLEX for the first time 9/30 and my quick results said I fail. I think I have to wait 45 days to re-exam in Kentucky and I don't want to waste any time studying to try again. I'm really trying not to get discouraged but it's hard. I would really love to hear some advice and what some you all have used to study with.

P.S. I also have the Saunder's review. I haven't really used it much though.

I took and passed the nclex-pn on 9/16/11. I didn't really study for the test but we used ATI all throughout the program. I think ATI is the best to study from...or it seemed so for me. ATI really prepared me for the test.

Good luck next time.

I'm asking my ATI tutor if I can 're-start' the study program. Maybe it can just refresh my memory. Thanks for wishing me luck though, I will apparently need every bit of it I can get! lol

My suggestion for you is know ur basic&info from Saunders and do each chapter a day until u know ur stuff. Then after that do at least 205 quest a day. And what help me is the fact throwing section here. If u have to keep re scheduling ur test becuz ur don't feel ready, do it. That's what I did. Good luck! II

well I took my test on aug.8th I did not pass! So I went to Barnes n noble bought the Hesi book, But it was the same as saunders. I went back and bought the "Hurst review book" but for Rn's its almost the same as for lvn's but I looked at this book everyday gives u labs to remember and charts to remember and strategies it doesnt give u just a bunch of diagnosis and stuff u dont need like saunders!!! :) Trust me this book is Great! I just made flash cards out of everything even the meds... it teaches it to you in the easiest way possible! well I took my test again on Oct 1 and it looks like i passes since i did the pvt! well good Luck!!! :))

Been there done that! I just found out I passed the PN here in CA. It was my 2nd time taking it. What helped me was buying an app for my iphone. It's a Saunders PN one. I would do question after question on that thing! I also had a notepad by me, so when I would miss a question I would write it down and study up on it. Also I personally would not spend to much time in drugs. The first time I got all 205 questions and had maybe 4 questions on meds, the 2nd time I had 85 questions and got only 2. So don't beat yourself up about it. Know obviously the basic ones like digoxin, fosamax, flagyl etc. One last tip, I had a TON of questions about safety precautions on my first test. So know by heart all the diseases that go with airborne, contact precautions etc.

Thanks for the great tips everyone! I'm definitely looking into the app, that way I can do it on the go. I am restarting the ATI and I've been looking through the Saunder's book (I installed the software so I can take the quizzes on the pc). I cannot remember the exact number of questions I had but, it was a little over 100. I had so many medicines I had never heard of. I remember classes but have a hard time remembering names. I'm going through some flash cards I had made in pharm.

Thanks again for all of the advice and help, makes me feel a lot better. Especially to hear from other people have had failed the first time.

OK i just passed the 30th and it was my second time on the LPN NCLEX. My first time around i only studied the Saunders book and ended up failing. Second time around I then used the CD that came with it, going over the quiz format, then read the rational for each question. I then went on the internet learning all the lab values, such as hgb, white blood cell count, potassim, ect. I also learned ever medication that i could, i also tried to learn all the endings of medications, such as (ide) means diurects. I also felt the 35 page study guide from this webcite helped. There is a range of info that help you, such as lit tips to remember things. Its a must to have. I can say I was heart broken when i failed but it made me study that much more. good luck, i dont know how to attach the study guide to you, send me your email if you want, i also have meds too
