Failed NCLEX PN, desperately need help :(

Published

Hi everyone, my name is Samantha. I graduated PN school 5/2011 and have been busy going back to school every since. I'm trying to get pre-reqs out of the way incase I decide to bridge into the RN program. I got so crammed with my new school work that I didn't have much time to focus on my ATI - which I know is a horrible excuse. I just took the NCLEX for the first time 9/30 and my quick results said I fail. I think I have to wait 45 days to re-exam in Kentucky and I don't want to waste any time studying to try again. I'm really trying not to get discouraged but it's hard. I would really love to hear some advice and what some you all have used to study with.

P.S. I also have the Saunder's review. I haven't really used it much though.

hi everyone, i just find out i failed my Pn nclex . am so frustrated now can anybody please help me out, i don't know what to study again

Hi, I'm new to this site. Thanks to all the advice I got on this site, I was able to pass my nclex pn on my first try. My advice --- don't stress, read and analyze each question carefully. Best of luck to all future nurses.

That's a huge part of my issue, not reading a question through all of the way. Gets me on ATI a lot, too! I know my problem is that I start to feel like I'm spending too much time on the question and probably overthinking it. I stress myself out about it, that's for sure.

im taking my exam on november 21 and im very nervous about it. i graduated in august and i feel as if im slowly forgetting everything that i learned in school (my school's tuition covered the cost of taking the exam one time and they just paid pearson in late october so the 21st was actually one of the closest dates i could pick). i purchased kaplan book, saunders book and a review app for my iphone. the kaplan questions i did so so on, the iphone review i did good and the saunders review questions...well lets just say im loosing my confidence in passing. im currently working on reviewing my medication information and reviewing the nclex review that was posted on allnurses (30 pages and very good tips), i also signed up on kaptest.com for a free nclex seminar thats next week (not sure if it will be of much help but what the heck it was free). as time grows closer im getting more and more nervous, just hoping that im doing enough and that information will start sticking so i can get through the exam.

im finding some issues with breaking down the questions to help myself find the right answer, im so used to answering questions based on either i know it and the answer is clearly listed or that i dont.

i did really well at clinical while in school and i know i can do this job and do it well, im just hoping that my horrible testing skills dont hold me back

Took my exam yesterday & glad I went over content, but the Kaplan Strategy book my son's nurse bought for me while I was in school was very helpful in breaking down the questions.

I don't think anything can completely prepare you for that exam though. I went in fairly calm & composed with as much focus as I could muster up, but was unprepared for taking an exam that I knew almost no answers for. Just understand that knowing your pathophysiology is extremely important, but that understanding how to make a nursing decision in an unfamiliar situation is what my exam seemed to be testing me on.

Everyone's exam is completely different. I searched these boards & read so many posts regarding what would be on the test. I used so many different materials from many authors (Kaplan, Exam Cram, NCSBN, Saunders, NCLEX 4000, etc.), but in the end, that computer was asking me questions, for the most part, that I didn't know the answers for...I had to figure out through cautious, educated thought what it wanted & what I would do in that situation.

My point is, I AM a good test taker, but this test is unlike any of the tests I've ever had. This isn't, necessarily, testing knowledge as much as judgment & critical thinking (at least mine didn't). It seemed to want me to use my knowledge to make a decision in an unfamiliar scenario...Hard to explain, but don't let your (as you say) past "poor test taking skills" get you down. You've worked hard to get where you are, you got through school, graduated, & you can do this!

I finish school on August 15 and just took my NCLEX-today Oct. 13...I didn't study at all for this test...I think ATI is a waste of time because the NCLEX is not like ATI...My opinion...I did have the NCLEX-PM Exam Prep book by Pearson...Even though I didn't study the book I did the exams on the disk once each and they are set up exactly like the NCLEX...I went online to Pearsonvue to try the trick and it said "The candidate has previously passed thi exam. A new appointment cannot be scheduled....And I just took it today and found out today I passed!!!!!! So excited....

hey wifey congratulations! im taking my test this coming nov. and ive been using exam cram and saunders can you tell me specific how they were similar coz now i finish the exam cram twice and im just memorizing it now since i know all of it?any tips though?thanks..

Hi,

I have taken the NCLEX PN 3x and I plan to take it again in January. I'm sorry you didn't pass your boards the 1st time but keep trying you will get it. I pray that you pass them the 2nd time around. I've been reading the post and the nurses on this forum are so encouraging. Good Luck you will pass !!!!

@Knockel1 can you please send me also your study guide i really need help i have failed a couple of times i really need help =(

Hi I took my nclex pn on Dec 1st and I just found out I PASSED! This was my 2nd time taking it and I got the max 205 I seriously was convinced I failed. I graduated 2 years ago I let a year pass before retaking it. I studied from Mosby's comprehensive review of practical nursing. I read that book front to back and every time I didn't understand something I would go to youtube and look up the disease, meds, symptoms etc. I felt that Youtube was so helpful because it really explained and helped me remember lots of important info. My advise is too stick to one book and really dedicate your time studying from that.

I just checked my status in Pearson Vue and I failed  I was really anxious after I took the exam because I finished all 205 questions and most of the comments here only finished the questions at 85 or so, but I am not giving up on this I will take the exam again, btw I have a lot of select all that apply and calculations during the test :crying2: super difficult for me, because the questions I encountered during Kaplan review was easy. But, anyways that's the past moving on now and back to studying again :specs:
