CA BRN Grad to NCLEX timeline/prep

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello all,

i know now many of us have just graduating and are applying for jobs and anxiously awaiting the BRN to send us our ATT so we can take the mystical NCLEX. I thought it would be nice to have a post our timelines, if we have accepted our first job yet and where you will be working as a new grad, how you are studying for the NCLEX, when you submitted your application to the BRN, when your school sent in your transcripts, when you received your ATT, and when you finally took the NCLEX how many questions you had and any advice you'd give to those who haven't taken it yet:)

I'll start off the conversation:

BRN application sent in: December 5th

RN grad date: 12/16/16

First RN job:Surgical ICU (very anxious)

transcripts roster sent in: 1/11/16

ATT: not received yet (BRN updates processing dates every Monday but the dates haven't changed in a few weeks probably due to the holidays)

Studying for NCLEX: 4 day in class Kaplan review (wasn't a huge fan, but instructor was nice and it did help a little), Uworld (awesome app, great rationales that help you review content as you test), NCLEX mastery (rationales are decent), misc NCLEX books to answer as many questions as I can (Saunders, Kaplan content review, ATI content review) Saunders is awesome because it has online question banks with a few thousand questions.

Hey! I am also a CA grad! I applied quite a while ago, however people that I know applied in December around the 1st, our transcripts were sent the 5th, and we (as a whole class) received our ATTs this past Friday (the 13th)! I have been studying using Kaplan and Uworld, along with the NCLEX Mastery App, and I too took the Kaplan course, which I actually enjoyed! I have been scoring high 50s-60s and on the UWorld readiness exam I got the 92 percentile with a high chance of passing, so I changed my original test date (January 30th) to this Wednesday (the 18th) because the more I study the more I feel information leaving my mind, and the more anxious I get!! My first job is on a Pediatric Cardiothoracic ICU at a level 1 trauma center (So so SO excited!!)! Good luck with your preparation!!

BRN application sent in: 11/26/16

RN grad date: 12/08/16

First RN job:NICU (start date in March)

transcripts roster sent in: 1/10/17

ATT: not received yet :(

Studying: UWorld. I did the entire test bank and am now re-doing the ones that I got wrong. My overall score when I completed the bank was 70%, and the UWorld predictor placed me in the 97th percentile with a very high chance of passing. I also have the Saunders book, but haven't spent much time in it.

were your transcripts sent 12/5 or 1/5? My school took over a month to send in our transcripts. :(

Mine were sent 1/5 sorry for the late reply!

Any updates on your guys ATTs?!

Still haven't received it :( one girl in my class said she got a letter a few weeks ago saying she wasn't approved yet because the school hadn't sent the transcripts in but no one else has heard anything. I logged into my breeze account just to make sure it wasn't updated because I applied for my interim permit also and it still says pending on everything:/ Knowing your school sent yours in a week before ours gives me hope though :) Anyday now hopefully, I guess we should enjoy this break while we can. One of my good friends who's been working a year now (first float pool then RICU) told me being a new grad is tough and you have a lot of bad days in the beginning but use them to learn and grow and not to take things personally.

The last past of my timeline, took my NCLEX Wednesday the 17th, and officially have my license the 19th!!! You guys got this!!! For me, I did an externship and now residency, which really helps the bad days not happen so much!!

This gives me hope! Thanks!

Update Everyone in my class that applied for one just received our interim permits today! Hopefully that means our ATT is on it's way via US mail:) you can check the status of that and your RN license by checking your breeze account!

Hello all :)

I also applied in california. I graduated 12/19/16. I sent my BRN application 11/17/16. Registered for Pearson and paid the exam fee 1/3/17. Unfortunately, my transcripts haven't been sent yet. My school said they were hoping to do it today. The only thing I have gotten from the BRN is that my livescan was rejected for poor quality, which I re-did ASAP in november. Im assuming everything is OK, because I have not received another letter. I'm quite nervous that I won't get an ATT soon, because I have a start date for a new grad program in late march. I'm studying now so the moment I get my ATT, I will register. Fingers crossed!

I got my ATT today and scheduled my NCLEX for feb 3rd
