ATT and Middle Name

Hi All,

Was browsing around on here for a bit and couldnt seem to find the right answer or it was really outdated. I got my ATT today and registered for a testing site. The ATT has my full middle name but my drivers license has a middle initial only. I've read the horror stories but they all seem to apply to misspellings or maiden names etc so just thought I would throw this one out there. Has anyone had this issue? I have 2 weeks. My main thought was to go to the DMV and update my license to see if they can just put the full name (anyone know if they do this in NJ??) or get a state license that has it on there. If anyone has some advice I could really use it.

I really don't have much to add however my DL only has my middle initial on it as well. That seems to be the defacto standard.

Right? Okay this is what I am hoping will suffice. I didnt even know a DL would put anything other than an initial. The PearsonVUE site says that the first and last name must match exactly- no mention of middle name. Not sure if thats because not everyone has one or what.

You could always take your Social Security card just to be safe. That will have your full name on it.

My ATT didn't have my middle name on it (never even noticed it 'til now when I checked it - I still had it). My DL has my full name (first, middle, & last) and my military ID has my first name, middle initial & last name. I think I used my DL on test day and I didn't have any problems at all. They want to see that your first & last name match your picture ID.

Pearson Vue mentions only first and last names because that's all they are required to verify at the testing center. I have to admit, one horror story would be all in took for me, I think I got concerned because my ATT had first/last and my DL has a middle iniital ... I bet if you had a mismatch (like the initial didn't match your full middle name - it might raise a red flag), but as it stands, they can't hold your responsible for info not in their candidate bulletin.

I doubt you'll be able to get a state ID or license change the same day (or even in 2 weeks) but you live in a different state. My passport has my full name (including middle).

I took the NCLEX-RN a few weeks ago. My ATT had my full middle name on it - my driver's license has my middle initial on it. This was the case for my wife as well. It was not an issue for either of us at Pearson Vue - hope this helps.

Have you considered calling the people who will be making the decisions and asking them?

An answer straight from the horse's mouth is going to do you much more good than an opinion you get on an internet forum.

Thanks everyone. Was able to open the safe up this AM and found my passport actually has full name on it so I am in the clear- picture is a little outdated but I doubt that'll give me much issue.

It's been a few years now, but I remember being worried about this before taking the NCLEX. I also remember there not being any issues when I went to take the test so it must not have been a problem. I don't think you need to worry. :)

We've all been there. I was going to suggest your passport, but I had a picture from when I was 17 on mine and I was more concerned about that than my middle name. I think I might have put in my bag anyway *laughs.*

Channel all that anxiety into doing practice questions, get a good nights rest and no studying the night before, and whatever you do - stay calm throughout the exam. Talk yourself through those difficult questions. Remember "difficult" or "off the wall" questions can be a GOOD sign!
