All I want for Xmas is to pass NCLEX-PN

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey All

First post, but long time forum lurker!

So I scheduled to take my Nclex the first week in Dec. I graduated my nursing program in July but with California's board being extreeeemly slow in processing I just received my ATT earlier this month. The date is getting closer and my anxiety level is getting up there!

I want to hear from those of you who have recently taken it. What was the test actually like??? What was the majority of your content?? Any special tips?

In my nursing prog they utilized ATI and said that would really prepare us for NCLEX, can any of you who also used ATI attest to that! Does it prepare u? I took the ATI nclex predictor and passed with an 82% stating the probability of me passing nclex first attempt was 99%. I hope it true!

I have been using Saunders CD to practice test questions like 50 a day, reviewing things like lab values, major meds that I saw a lot of at clinicals like cardiac meds. And online ATI tools. I feel overwhelmed since I've been out of school for months now and haven't really been studying like I should have. (Total procrastinator)

Would like to hear your recent Nclex experiences, what you would recommend and how you studied. TIA

Hey Im in the same boat as you,ALL I WANT FOR X MAS IS TO PASS! I graduated in July 2013 and took my test Oct 18,2013 and failed with flying colors.My schoool used ATI but I was one in class that struggled throughout the program.Im slow and like to take my time and my program was accelerated so I felt like I was just learning to pass the test.I had 14 people in my class and everyone passsed N CLEX but myself and another classmate(SUCKS BIG TIME)My classsmates said I waited to long to test but I dont think 3 months was a long time.I know some people wait 2 and 3 years to test and pass on the 1st try;I scheduled my test 1 week before XMas which I thought really hard about.I dont want anything for X MAS but to pass.I thought about moving the date till after X Mas but I figured Im gone be depressed either way it go so I may as well get it out the way.I was told just to practice questions and read the rationals not to read because I did enough reading in school.I WILL PRAY FOR YOU AND ME BOTH

I used Kaplan and it worked well for me. My qbank scores were in the low 50s. I passed on my first try. Good luck to you!

I feel the same way. I take my test soon and pray that I pass that would be the best Xmas ever for me.

DO NOT STRESS. lol kinda hard not to , I know . I took my exam OCT 4th, I passed , & am now waiting for my License to arrive -_- I'm here in California too . all I studied was Nclex-pn 3000 program (every single category). and Nclex Made Easy Book Q&A AND the 35 page Study Guide from off of here , BIGGEST HELP!!! It has cute rhymes and ways of remembering things. it has ALL the most important things you could have ever learned in nsg school. during Nclex I felt like I seen all the questions before. (because all I studied were Q&A from any and everywhere) it was pretty straight forward and nothing to really stress over.

no advice for ya, but I graduate this month and hoping for my ATT within a week or two of graduation (MN is very fast in the 'off season' I've heard), so in the same boat as you!! All I want is to pass :)

Hey, I am also using the nclex 3000 online, was it very helpful for you on the nclex?

Hi: Congrats! I am an RN, so I dont know if this series applies to the PN nclex, but I really enjoyed the Feuer nursing review series. There are 28 CDs, and you can listen to them in the car (key for a busy mom like myself). The review is a taped 5 day review course offered by Feuer. I passed first time in 75 questions. My school offered the Kaplan review, but mostly I did TONS of questions every day. I also went online and got the Prenhall free reviews. They have topics on everything from pediatrics to Critical Care to Gerontology. Just google it...

Ok...what I am about to suggest may give you a sense of what to prepare for the NCLEX...

As a TWO TIME first passer (NCLEX-PN and RN) and an individual with (former) test anxiety, here it is:

The keys to becoming a competent, entry-level nurse (what the NCLEX is measuring) are as follows:

1. Safe, effective care;

2. Health Promotion;

3. Physiological Integrity

4. Psychosocial Integrity

Remember to identify WHAT the question is ASKING YOU; you may get a question about the respiratory system and a particular med; however it may be asking about Health Promotion, or is it Physiological Integrity??? What is the PRIORITY?

It makes a HUGE difference in knowing what scenario is presented for the best answer. :yes:

In preparing for the NCLEX, what is your weaker questions? What are you struggling in the 4 key areas above? Focus your studies on the questions you find that you have a struggle with, then review the rest of the key areas.

As far as what sources; I used several sources: LaCharity, Saunders, Lippinicott; The Success Series, Exam CRAM, and NCSBN for the dress rehearsal as sources for review and questions; I had test anxiety, so I knew I had to prepare myself for key reminders, and then reviewed questions and would prepare myself by creating mock NCLEX exams; I would review 75, then 135, then 205, then 265 (for RN). I wanted to get a feel in if I had to go the distance. I also used deep breathing exercises prior and during the exam if I felt my nerves were getting the best of me. I also hid the time so that I wouldn't get nervous or feel pressured to finish.

No matter what source you use for questions, it is going to be up to YOU on how to approach the questions, and if one is approaching the question for the BEST answer.

Take the test at the best time of the day for YOU. Eat well prior to the exam, follow all the instructions by the test proctor.

Hope this helps! :up:
