75 questions and failed. HELP PLEASE!

hello everyone,

i have taken the July 3rd NCLEX and as to my dismay, I failed yet again. I always wanted to be an RN and this examination is the only thing that's holding me back towards achieving my dreams to become an RN. I have taken the online HURST review in my preparation for this exam and as to my surprise, I only utilize few of the info I have learned from the content of the course, and I know the materials by heart. I know for sure that i did not pass as I guessed the whole time i was taking the exam. I had 4 math calculation questions, atleast 3-4 SATA, teaching/management delegation, and few priority, and pharm about a drug i never heard before, same drug over and over again.

I am almost to a point of just giving up but I have read a lot of trends hear that struggled as well and did not give up. For some reason, I am a person that can't seem to pass any of the RN licensure exam and I want to break that mentality. I know and believe that eveything happens for a reason. it's been a year since I graduated from nursing school and i feel like i am running out of time. 2009 wasnt a good year for me and it turned out the 2010 is the same thing. I really need some help as to how I prepare this time around. any words of encouragement are highly appreciated as well. I wanted to be an RN so badly and I wanted to pass this exam. Sorry to hear that you failed. I recently found out a couple of days ago that I failed as well AGAIN. I am in the same boat as you, for the life of me I can not seem to pass this exam and it will be almost a year since graduation. Take a break for a while...see where you were weak and trying studying again. I know its hard because I feel the same way, but please dont give up...keep trying and soon you pass. God's timing is very different from ours and I had to find that out the hard way. Try to cheer up, and get back in those books. Alway think positive and surround yourself around others who are positive. My mother told me the other day "failure is a person who gives up".

You tried the hurst online right? Have you tried kaplan or saunders?

no I have not. some of the girls that i've known have taken HURST and pass it the first try. i thought I was getting the hard questions as I was stucked with lotsa questions on delegation and teaching and i stayed on those questions for about 3-4 minutes. i have not gotten questions in peds or maternity. it's just so unfair that I have not given a chance to prove myself even more. 75 questions to determine my fate is just harsh.

It sounds like you are freaking out about the test to me.

IMO, the number one rule when taking NCLEX is to not freak out.

If you failed with 75 questions then you are either not taking in the material correctly, freaking out or a combination of both.

I don't think Hurst review is helpful one bit, we don't need to know content, we learned that in nursing school. What we need to know is how in the world do I answer these questions!? NCLEX may throw a lot of big words at you but if you can sift through the question you may realize you don't have to know anything about the big word.

I would highly recommend KAPLAN. KAPLAN will teach you a little bit of content but more importantly how to answer the questions. It's very pricey but very worth it. If money is hard for you then at least get the KAPLAN qbank and answer the questions. The KAPLAN questions are NCLEX questions from previous tests.

you don't have your results , so you don't know you failed. I walked out feeling like i failed and passed at 75. wait until you get your results and definatley don't give up. if this is your dream...Keep fighting for it!! hang in there.

My empathy to you. It's so darn debilitating to feel like a failure.

We often associate tests we take as indications of our worth as an individual. This is not true, and I'm sure this is difficult for you to process. You merely wish to overcome this obstacle, this "white whale", and get on with your life.

However, it already sounds like you are attempting to process this whole business and deal with any possible outcomes. That's good. Expecting that which is not a desired goal is an indication of an individual who plans to persevere.

So, yahy, persevere. And the next time you "go after Moby Dick", as The Little Book of Instructions says, "bring along some tartar sauce."

i did actually got my result and I failed which is hard to believe coz i struggled on so many questions. is that KAPLAN 2007 book you are referring to bamagt or a review course as well?

I agree with the above poster that its more about how to take the test. I have an NCLEX study guide, and my total prep was reading the first chapter on how to take the test, and I passed with 88 questions. First rule is not to freak out!!!! Then read the question carefully and make sure you know exactly what they are asking. For example if they ask ...For an asthmatic patient what would be your first intervention: 1. Assess Breathing 2. Monitor O2 sats 3. Lay patient flat 4. Give patient oxygen. Your first response might be access breathing because you are freaked out, but they are asking for an intervention. 1 & 2 are not interventions, you know you would never lay someone flat who can't breath so 3 is out. The only other possible answer is 4.

So read carefully then start eliminating. I found that even when I didn't have a clue I could at least get it down to 50/50 most of the time. You can do this!!!!

I know I thought the same as well because I kept getting SATA but the nclex is so random, you never know your outcome. You should be getting you evaluation in the mail soon and work from there. Please dont give up, you will over come this. Good luck and God bless.

please help! my exam is on sept 17, 2010. i graduated long time ago(1996) and i decided to take nclex-rn. i am reading saunders( comprehensive review) and kaplan 2010 nclex-rn strategies.any advice..kinda freaking out now because there's alot of medication i dont know and lab values...

advise please........

You just have to pick yourself up and go after your goal again. You might be able to find some good advice in the NCLEX forum.

When u sucessfully completed RN program............its just only 1 more test,,so y r u worry now?

just think during school year, there were so many tests and u survived.......so y not one more test.......best of luck...
