Published

hi. i need ur help!!! i took nclex already 4th times and no luck yet. i already tried Excell review in burbank and kaplan twice but did not help. i graduated 2010 and since then twice a yr i stop working couple of mos or so and focus my review. i have my att valid until march 25 2014 and im still working. im planning to start focus review feb1. do you think 2 mos of everyday review is enough? i will try the american healthways at this time. can u me some advices and suggestions that u may think will help me to pass this? im

hopeless sometimes and blaming myself being not smart enough to pass. or God is not

letting me to pass because im a sinner. cant stop thinking what to do.. HeLP!!! thanks

That could very well be the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Seriously, you wish you failed boards so you could leave the profession? You do realize you can quit anytime you'd like and treat this as a life journey or however you called it... If you are stressed at work, hate work, hate nursing, have new grad blues, that is one thing but to say in a forum of someone desperately wanting to pass NCLEX that you wish you failed so that you could get out of said profession is just plain nutty.

...And clinical rotations and practicum were the "volunteer experiences" you mentioned to test the waters of the profession... I am not following you when you discuss that volunteering would have made you more keen on what the job description entailed. We are one of the only degrees that has so much "intern-like" experiences.

I know many people wont like what I want to say.. but I wish I was the one that failed 4 times in a row so that I can stop and do what I really like to do. The only thing that would of hurt me is the student loans. I would of taken it as a life tip. When you get into a field you should volunteer and see what being a nurse is all about. These passed few months at my new nursing job have been some of the most stressful days of my life. My hair falls of constantly and I get nervous every day I go to work. No matter how many days months pass I still feel the same. I wish that I was in your shoes and failed. After the third attempt I would have chosen a different career. Don't get me wrong all of my patients love me and I care for them. Its just high levels of stress is not something I can live comfortably with.[/quote']

Sorry about your unhappiness. You should probably look for another job ASAP or leave nursing altogether, as you do seem pretty unsatisfied with your career. Life's too darn short, let's chase out dreams( as corny as it sounds lol)

I don't think the OP needs to hear you wish you had failed the nclex 5 times so you can leave the profession.

My humble opinion :)

I used Pearson's and Rationales book and found it really helpful. It's a pretty large book but it basically goes through everything that might be covered on NCLEX and gives you practice questions at the end of each chapter. I pretty much read that entire book and was able to pass on my first try. Best of luck!! :)

on my first time im not really serious taking my exam. on my 2 nd time i improved with my scores then next when i used kaplan my paychosocial integrity was the lowesr but i almost pass except to psychosocial. im almost there but all of the sudden i got bored and disappointed and planned to work while reviewing on my 4 th time. i know im not doing my best yet. i took my 4th time laat march2012 and planning to start my review on january weekends and fulltime on feb and march. i did well from school i used to be a dean's lister once. im a foreign student actually. i can say im not that stupid person knowing nothing. im just really nervous everytime i sit on exam.[/quote']

Ok...

I HOPE you really realize by this statement where you went really REALLY WRONG when approaching the NCLEX.

One of the FIRST pearls of wisdom that my instructors did for me and my cohorts was hammer home to us was NEVER go into the NCLEX NOT TAKING IT SERIOUSLY!!!

Now, hopping off my soapbox...

Sounds like you are aware of the standards of the NCLEX, but it's worth repeating: The standards of becoming a competent, entry level (as well as eventual expert) nurse per the NCLEX are:

1. Safe, Effective Care

2. Health Promotion

3. Physiological integrity

4. Psychosocial integrity (your weakness)

What steps have you taken since discovering that you had a weakness in psychosocial integrity? What have you done differently? If you KNOW the material, have you done mock NCLEX exams to prepare for the exam? For example, are you doing just questions and answers and reviewing rationales?

One key in reviewing for the NCLEX is choosing the BEST answer in terms of best practices; the NCLEX is measure that based on the answers that you choose. Reviewing questions and rationales are your best bet, along with a refresher course once you get licensed (YES, it is still possible ;) ).

First things first:

1. Review your resources; try sources such as LaCharity, ExamCRAM, Lippincott, the Success Series, as well as the NCSBN (aka makers of NCLEX) test review; they have a VERY comprehensive review; they have 3, 5, and 8 week review online and completely accessible 24/7 for the weeks you need it.

2. If you have test anxiety, get a handle on that. As a former test anxiety sufferer, I passed the NCLEX-PN and RN the first time because I had a way to cope with it; I studied the NCLEX (took the NCLEX-RN June 2012) by answering questions up to 75, then 135, then 185, then 205, then 265 to prepare for the long haul; I used deep breathing exercises if I got stumped by a question; I also hid the clock during the exam so I would feel the pressure to speed up. I also used ear plugs offered by the test center to prevent me from hearing people who were already testing when they left.

3. YOU will be the only deterrent if you know you are not doing your best  If you really want to be a nurse, went through nursing school and invested your time, I am SURE you know that being a nurse is about being on your game and doing your best at ALL TIMES within reason; "not doing my best" as you stated WON'T CUT IT with your patients-being bored and disappointed if you are on a floor you don't like (which could happen when you are in a working position) when there a patient has a significant change isn't going to cut it, and I am sure you are aware of that; again, you have that power-start by approaching this exam ENTIRELY different-go back to square ONE.

Best wishes in your studies!

Well said!

Ignore my previous message. What I wanted to say is that I wish you passed on the first try and with the minimal questions and that I wish you passed it on to me and I failed 5 times.

If you want to pass I highly recommend the Kaplan Qbank questions, Hurst Review. Keep studying the Kaplan questions until you memorize them. I had memorized them so much that I didn't have to finish reading the question and I knew the answer on all of them.

That is how much you need to study. You have to study every day and practice many MANY multiple answer questions.

So memorizing the questions help you know the info on nclex ? That's how I'm studying , doing them over and over & writing down all , right or wrong , like repetition . Just wanna know if I can succeed that way

Um...

Everything you know from NURSING school will help you know the info on the NCLEX...see my original post to the OP in succeeding on the NCLEX...

Wow lol. When I said memorizing the questions of course you also memorize the answers. I studied every day. So much that i memorized all of the Kaplan Q Bank questions (and answers) and many of the Nclex book questions.

When I was studying and saw a word i did not understand. For example (Dyskinesia). I would write it down on my notebook. I would look up and investigate any word I did not understand until I understood exactly what it was. Many times I would also see videos on procedures or illnesses.

If you are a visual learner I recommend watching many videos. I am trying to help. Not sure why there are so many attacks against me.

Edit: Study many multiple answer questions. Over half of my test was select all that apply.

Is the language a barrier to taking the exam? I've read plenty of posts here where ESL students struggle with the NCLEX. Also, PLEASE review the TOS, the text speak is making it SO hard to read your posts and take you seriously as a professional....

I know someone who failed 4 times and had been a nurse for 20 plus years now. It's the principal , if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it , deliverance is everything , and we all learned empathy . Put yourself in this person shoes. When someone's down you don't kick them . Keep it to yourself. Go tell ya wall . I hope our 5th time test taker uses the haters as motivation and doesn't let negative ppl get to him or her . I'll pray for you && the ppl that said what they said

thanks and remain bless
