I keep hearing about high paying jobs in St Louis, but when call ling the hospitals, they deny it.

Does anybody know of any?

Or good local agencies in the area?

I am supporting husband through school, looking for the highest paying job!!

I havent heard of any jobs paying that...but I'm just a student. I know last summer SSM had some sort of short term high paying deal going on, but it ended with Labor Day. I'm curious what state/states did you work in that paid this? Just for future info. When my husband retires(in five years)I'm thinking about traveling so it might help to know! Thanks!

Nursebrandie28, payscale.com and some of the other salary sites do have projected salaries across the country that are higher than here in St. Louis. I have only seen as high as the upper 30's on any of these sites though. Perhaps you were looking at the payscale for NP's or CRNAS in some more remote areas. If you find some place that pays that well for a regular RN, PLEASE let us know! lol

But you are right, St. Louis seems REALLY at the low end as far nursing is concerned, and this city is supposed to be a huge health mecca. I am only a student so I haven't personally experienced trying to find an actual job willing to pay what these salary sites claim, so I may be being a little hard on St. Louis. I've lived here my whole life and my husband and I are moving the whole family afer I finish nursing school to another area (likely, AZ) so I haven't let the posts from St. Louis nurses diclosing their salary rattle me too much.

HTH!

I have only heard of hourly rates that high when working through a travel agency. I know new grads are making close to $20/hour (depending on hospital experience), but I really have no clue what the scale is from there...

Best wishes!!

No $30/hr jobs when I worked in the hospital 3 years ago I left at 27/hr and had 25 years of experience.

I worked for Mo Vet Home as a Per Diem and made $40.....That was in 2006

I know some weekend option nurses make $40+ an hour.

Saw a ad in the news paper for JMH which about 55 miles south of st louis and their prn rates said about $40

Do you know if you have to have seniority to be hired for a weekend option job? Also, do weekenders qualify for benefits (I know PRN don't)? What is considered the "weekend": Fri., Sat., and Sun.? Thanks!

Seniority I do not know about. The weekend option are considered regular employees and receive benefits. The weekend full-time for weekend option is Fri, Sat, Sun. Part-time is Sat, Sun.

My boyfriend is supporting me while I am in nursing school, he too is a nurse. He works for an agency called "Avantas" it's a staffing agency that only staffs the SSM hospitals of St Louis- and their pay is comparable to what you are asking for. Other than that, there are other agencies, such as Favorite Nurses, Inc. , All Staff, Nurses PRN. They normally only have 13 week contracts at certain hospitals. Avantas is completely different from all that though. My boyfriend works some days at St Marys, others at Lake St Louis, and Wentzville. Here is a website that may help you look into some agencies. Jason works 4 days one week and 3 the other and is able to pay our mortgage, car payment, credit cards, and misc bills.
