WCCC does NOT have an accredited nursing program

U.S.A. Michigan

so i was doing some research about wccc (wayne county community college) and found out that they are not accredited by nlnac.

does it really matter if the program isnt accredited? can you still get a job out there?

YES you can get a job. Maybe you should do more research on the TYPE of accrediation you are talking about. Or call the nursing program, and they can inform you.

Why does this keep coming up? And with such a fear-mongering title to the thread? :twocents:

I won't bother defending WC3 because so many already have, but I will say that I have had a great experience so far and am really looking forward to getting in to their nursing program this fall.

What an unnecessary title for something that has been talked about so much. Ridiculous. Do a little more research and you will find that A LOT of schools around here are not accredited by NLNAC. SO WHAT. It is accredited by the Michigan BON, and when I graduate I will sit for the same test as anyone who went to a NLNAC accredited school....and then I will be an RN and get a job. Seriously. I don't know why people keep saying that WCCCD is not accredited. Because it is.

I agree that approval from the state BON (which WCCC has) is the most important factor in obtaining licensure and jobs, but it would be accurate to say that WCCC doesn't have an accredited nursing program. State boards of nursing do not issue accreditation.

ICK..

I love the nursing program at WCCCD!!!!!!!!! :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:yeah::yeah::yeah::D

And one day I will be working with many others from many other schools. . . . RIGHT next to them!:smokin: :rolleyes:

Talk about beating a dead horse to death! :banghead: Schoolcraft's program isnt accredited by the nlnac either but you never hear to much about that...

Sometimes I think people do this so that they can scare potential applicants away. (I am not saying that this is the OP's agenda) It just seems that this issue always comes up right around application time and it just makes one wonder...

I am applying for Fall and I will spread the news about WCCCD's nursing program to anyone who will listen! :yeah: I hope I get in and I can't wait to start the rest of my life!!!!!

I am currently in the first semester of WCCC Nursing program I love it! I feel I was more than prepared for clinicals. There are two other schools on the same floor as us and we have not made half the amount of mistakes as they did, for example administering the wrong medication to a patient. This subject ticks me off everytime it comes up. WCCC may not be at the top of everyones list to apply for but atleast I did not have to wait 1- 2 years on a waitlist and I am not paying out my rearend for an education and still sit and take the same boards as us WCCC Students! :twocents: :chuckle

Is it a misnomer that if you graduate from an unaccredited nursing program, that you are illegible to apply for a license outside of MI? That is what I have always heard but I could be dead wrong.

In the end, you still sit for the same NCLEX exam that everyone else does and become an RN so does it truly matter?!

Specializes in ICU/Critical Care.

I wouldn't worry about the accreditation thing. WC3's program is as good as any other around Michigan. Yes, you can sit for the NCLEX. Yes, you can get a job. I am an HFCC graduate class of 2005. There are flaws with every program even HFCC.

Do you think employers care that you are graduating from an NLNAC accreditted program?

No.

Can you get a job outside of michigan if you graduate from a program that is not accreditted by NLNAC?

Yes.

Every program requires something different. WC3 goes by GPA, HFCC by those five or six classes they want you to have finished prior to the nursing program.

I am a HFCC grad of 2005 and wished I went to WC3 because they would have required me to take Pathophysiology and Microbiology, two classes I feel are important.

My sister would probably have to wait 2 years to get in at HFCC, I told her to go to WC3

By the way, shouldn't you all be studying?

which are the same number of classes wccc wants you to have finished, right?

what stopped you from taking them on your own?
