Possible WCCCD Nursing Applicants

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I applied for Wayne County Community Nursing program 01/2011. I have yet to hear from the college if accepted or not :crying2:. Has any WCCCD applicants heard back regarding their applications? Everytime I call the Nursing office they tell me letters have not been sent out yet. The stress from waiting is killing me slowly.

Just a caveat ,

The combined blood pressure spig and stethoscope being sold for 25 is junk. I purchased it and they have a no return policy. I think the same can be said about the other cheaper stethoscopes.

I also got the uniform and accessory kit (light, scissors, pen) I'm guessing we don't need any equipment to lab the first day correct?

Cheska_rn2be, Thanks, I don't think if there is any change but I was not sure first what to wear for that class now, I know thanks and Good luck to you too.

Alibrahimi, that was my question too, what we need for the first 7.5 weeks. Because I don't think we need all these stethoscope, uniform and the other stuff.....for the first 7.5 weeks. I haven't bought that yet. But I really want to know what we need for the first 7.5 weeks and as well for the second 7.5 weeks, that way we will be ready with everything before class started..... Cheska_rn2be if you remember can you please let us know what we need. Thanks...

They should have given you a list at orientation, and you definitely need ALL of it (stethoscope, measuring tape, etc.) for your first day, and for the whole first 7 1/2 weeks!!! You will be using them to learn (in lab) how to measure Ted Hose, take BP, listen for adventitious breath sounds, and everything else. You will need it all for clinicals as well (second 7 1/2 weeks), but definitely for lab first 7 1/2 weeks.

You won't need your uniform until the second 7 1/2 weeks (first day of clinical), but make sure you order your name badge ahead of time so you will have it in time for clinical. Some instructors will NOT let you start clinicals w/out the badge and patches, and I believe it takes abt 2-3 weeks for that store to get them in once you order.

The school did not give us the list but next room where we order our stuff, they had been handing out a list of paper and some people got it some didn't cause they didn't have enough for everybody I guess. And they said we don't need to get everything on the list so I don't even know what to get. So what I did was I ordered my name badge and patches that the same day.

So I will go and get the rest of the stuff... please I need the list of everything that I need please guys let me know. so far

1, stethoscope

2, measuring tape

3, blood pressure monitor

4, bandage scissors

5, light pen

6, ...

I know the uniform I don't need it until the second 7 1/2 weeks. But I'm gonna go buy it anyways. Thank you so much cheska_rn2be for your help..... if there is more thing that I need let me know please.

Thank!

I went to that discount uniform place and I purchased everything I need. The guy have the list there. So I think I'm done with everything. :)

Ok so quick question. I am applying to WCCCD Nursing program. What are the chances of me getting into the program with a 3.68 GPA in pre reqs and co reqs and a TEAS Score of 94%?

Hi lilltl, you have a real good chance of getting in the program ,your gpa Is the same as mine when i applied and got in,but i scored a 85% on the teas, good luck

schrellnicole, thank you for your response. I am just worried and want to get into a program badly.

Hello all, first off congrats on your acceptance to the nursing program. I am hoping to finish all of my pre-reqs by the end of Fall 2011, and looking to apply for the Fall 2012 program. I would appreciate your stats, i.e.

1.GPA

2.TEAS SCORE

3. All courses completed at wcccd?

4. All Co-reqs completed?

5. Medical background?

During the June 30, 2011, Spring 2012 orientation, Dr. Doresa Lewis stressed that admissions was not all about points. She even gave examples of students with a 4.0 and 90 Teas not getting in because they wrote a crappy essay or had unimpressive references. Can anymore attest to this, or is it really all about points?

I applied with a 3.66 overall (all A's in pre-reqs), and my NET (what we took before TEAS) was not impressive -- I basically just hit at the minimum requirements, and I had no previous medical employment history. However, I truly believe my references and essay are what helped me get it. My employer wrote me a glowing letter of recommendation, and I had a long-time friend (a nurse) write me one as well. Point of my post? Don't be completely discouraged if your TEAS score isn't the highest it could be, or your overall GPA isn't a 4.0 -- like Dr Lewis said -- they do factor in the other requirements.

They actually figured you in with a 4.0 GPA since that's what you received on the pre-reqs. They only count co-reqs if it boosts the GPA.

The GPA can be your ticket in or out given that its 60% of the calculation.

I believe anything 3.8 and higher is 60 points

3.6-3.79 is 50 points

so assuming the teas is worth 20 points, technically you have a good chance to get in with the min required teas and a GPA 3.8 and higher. Likewise,

If you have a 3.6 and higher with the entire Teas points you also have a solid chance.

Hopefully that'll help those who haven't applied yet.
