Michigan wages

U.S.A. Michigan

Hi all, I was wondering if someone could tell me how much a new grad makes? Also, are most of the hospital jobs union?

I want to bump this and see if more people reply:).....hey, ofcourse this is interesting!

Anyone know what an lpn makes in ltc in southeast MI?

Psalm, I'm working for lakeland woo-hoo.

Anyhow, I'm a new grad, LPN, and I just got my first job 17.42 an hr. I was thrilled about it until I went on some other thread and they were talking about making 22-25 an hr......probably cost of living is higher?

Emilie

Where were they located?

California, Texas, Ohio.....etc.....

Specializes in Staff nurse.

Yeah, cost of living probably has lots to do with it. We had an LPN who worked at Lakeland a couple of years ago and went to Chicago and got $28/hr. But I am sure rent and gas and daycare is alot higher in Chicagoland! Hope you enjoy your new job AND position as an LPN. Congrats :)

Emilie, I realize there are other areas of the country with higher living expenses but I think SE Michigan is plenty high for me. I would love to move away from here somewhere cheaper. Housing is obviously biggest expense. I always wonder what all these people around me do for a living that are buying all these 400-500 thousand dollar houses, and those arent even the expensive ones. I live in west bloomfield but not in an expensive house. Anywhere from here to Howell and they dont even build new houses under 300 anymore. We are pulling in around 70 a year and are poor. I am very tight with money and dont buy anything I dont need. I havent been on a vacation since my honeymoon and could go on and on. I think anything under $20 an hour stinks.

Anne,

Things seem to be pretty reasonable to me in my area....I can't imagine pulling in 70k and not being well off in this area...isn't it weird how if varies seemingly mile to mile? So, anyhow, if you are looking......I like it here :)

I wonder the same because I like in Oakland county too. $20 is nothing in oakland. Are you talking about RN starting wage or LPN?

You see, Oakland County is one of the most richest counties in the nation. As a matter of fact if you take out some areas like Hazal park, and oak park, and other it would become the richest county in the US. Most people in the oakland count are very well educated Like doctors and businessman and lawyers. So they can afford housing like that. Also, if you notice or go on a drive to other part of metro detroit the housing is not that expense. Take macomb county for example it is very cheap. My dad almost try to sell the house we live in to move to macomb to down size as he is having some a hard time paying all the bills. Oh also, employers in Oakland County is likely to pay more as the standard of living is much higher. Also try Ann Arbor as it is also become one of the affluent areas in the the state.

In short if you are a new RN you will be making about $50k a year plus all the benefits.

I hope it helps, you can also find more salary like the LPN on and what not on that same site.

I would hardly say Macomb county is "very cheap". What about Shelby Twp, Washington, Sterling Heights? Sure, if you take out Warren, Mount Clemens and others it can be just as expensive to live as Oakland County.

There is nothing cheap in the whole metro Detroit area. There are less expensive houses to be had but then if you have any children then we are talking a whole different game. You will sacrafice safety and/or decent school district to get an affordable house. I am very lucky to live in one of the best districts around but the housing is not affordable to most people.
