HESI @ MCC questions

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I am getting close-ish to taking the HESI, and I want to prepare now. I took out a couple "nursing school entrance exam" books at the library, and I want to know what specifically I should study.

My books list English (synonyms, antonyms, analogies, spelling), reading comprehension (paragraph understanding), mathematics (arithmetic, problem solving, algebra, quantitative comparisons). Should I study all that is listed?

I have a learning disability in math. Can I get permission to use a calculator for the test?

And finally, does anyone know the average HESI score for this year?

Any other tips and tricks would be much appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!!

There is a calculator on the computer while you take the exam.

You have four more months, right? All you need is the actual Hesi study guide. I did buy a 6th grade math workbook because I suck at math (bought it at Meijers). There are grammar tests you can find online to practice. The grammar part is super easy, though. The reading is tricky, I don't know anything that will help you with that. To study for the vocabulary I just made a list of all the words in that section of the study guide that I wasn't familiar with and I kept reading the definitions till I memorized them (I missed one vocab question on the exam) There is a calculator you can use on the computer during the test, so no worries there. The test was so much easier than I had imagined, I left the test room with a big grin on my face when it was over :nuke:.

I'm going to Meijer tomorrow then haha!

Yes, I have a few months, but I want to do my absolute best. I want to be a nurse more than anything.

I attend at HFCC and this may still help you. The link above is a sample NET test format. It covers math and reading comprehension only as that's what they test for at HFCC. It might help you with your math review.

Good luck!

Thank you so much! I'll check it out :)

I am taking it at MCC in the fall to! I bought the HESI study guide at Barnes and Noble. I am so nervous. Good luck!!!

I suggest checking out a copy from the macomb community library. It isn't that hard. The one thing that got me last year was there was some basic anatomy vocab that I was told wouldn't be on it. It was pretty basic like dorsal, ventral, and simple terms like that, but it kind of threw me for a loop when I saw them. I would focus on the handbook and not much else because it will give you a good idea of what will be on it. Also do the online tests.

I'm working on some of the practice tests. My main struggle is in math, though. Percents, square roots, probability, fractions... No idea. I'm thinking about going to the learning center to work with someone in math it would also be helpful to know what types of math questions are asked. Thanks again for all the advice, everyone!!

If you look at my link above, it will give you a good idea as to what type of Math is on your test.

Good luck!

Anyone know what the difference is between the hesi and the net and why some colleges use one and some use the other?
