I'm in the same situation. I haven't had any luck finding jobs. Hardly can find any to apply to. I went to a job fair on friday and they told me they couldn't even talk to me until I got a license (henry ford macomb). It's pretty depressing. Good luck!

I did one at Hazy Institute in Oak Park. It was 2 weeks and cheaper than the red cross.

I just took my test at Mott last week. It seemed to me that they were pretty relaxed as far as things go. There were two beds, one with a dummy and one with a person. The one with the person in it was broken and didn't raise. I just had to say, "I'm raising the bed" instead of actually raising it. Also, I washed my hands twice. The first time she didn't even come in the bathroom with me to watch which made me feel kinda weird. The second time she came in and watched and told me that I could just say, "I'm washing my hands" when I would do that. I had a partial bed bath and she said it was fine by me just saying "I'm changing the water because it is too cold and soapy." She did ask to see what temperature the water should be at (105). And if you forgot something you can always say, "I am going back a few steps because I forgot to (insert thing here)." And you don't actually have to go back and do it, just say it. I did ROM lower extremity and I did it in the supine position. I would say to keep the bed in a lowest position to transfer (even though the bed doesn't raise so you would have to anyway) because you want the person's feet to be able to touch the ground and not strain to much when getting up. Oh, the button to raise the bed was kinda weird on the bed with the actual patient. When you started raising it, you have to hold down the button until it is the height you want it. If you take your finger off the button in the slightest, it won't continue to raise. All the stuff was available and she showed you where it was before you start. The bath supplies and that sort of stuff is by the bedside which kinda threw me for a loop when I went to look for the tub for the bed bath. I thought their equipment for the blood pressure was wasn't the greatest. I accidentally opened it to fast the first time (part of my problem was that I did it with the opposite hand that I am used to) and so i had to do it again. Oh, the building they are doing it in is under construction and I got a little lost. I'd make sure to show up early so you have time to figure out where to go. I thought the written part of the test was super easy. It took me about 15-20 min to finish. Hope that helps!

Yay! I found out today I'm in for 09 as well! I have Psy 225 this fall and NRS 227 this fall. I am so excited! Congrats everyone!

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I decided to take the cna class at the Hazy Institute of Learing. I just finished it two weeks ago. It is $600 and is only 2 weeks. The waitlist wasn't as long as the Red Cross one. When I called Red Cross at the end of June, I was told there wouldn't be space in it until the beginning of september. I called Hazy the same day and I was able to start a class that next monday. I haven't taken my test yet, but I think in the long run it is going to be good and also help me out alot for school. I think there are a couple of other companies that hold them too. Oh, if you are currently on unemployment you may be able to get it paid for by the state. Try at Michigan Works. I was already off unemployment so I couldn't do it. Hope that helps.

I just signed up for the Hazy Institute on Friday. They were the only place I got in touch with that didn't have a waitlist until the end of Aug. I start my class on Monday. I'm very excited! Any tips?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew where you can get CNA training here in the Detroit area? I know that Red Cross does some, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any other places that do it. I am trying to get certified ASAP. I am a pre-nursing student (second degree) and I am trying to get a job because I have a year until I will start the program. I don't have any hospital experience and I am trying to figure out how to go about getting some. It seems to me that it would be best to get CNA training so I could get a better job at a hospital. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help! Erin

I suggest checking out a copy from the macomb community library. It isn't that hard. The one thing that got me last year was there was some basic anatomy vocab that I was told wouldn't be on it. It was pretty basic like dorsal, ventral, and simple terms like that, but it kind of threw me for a loop when I saw them. I would focus on the handbook and not much else because it will give you a good idea of what will be on it. Also do the online tests.

So, anyone have trouble signing up for classes for summer? I'm still pre-program, but def had some trouble on monday. Quick question: Did anyone take PSY 225 online for the program? They are telling me I can't take the class online because spots are reserved for undergrads and other students and that 2nd degree doesn't apply to that. They said I had to take the one at campus (unfortunately the same time as another class I am taking). It doesn't seem fair that I can't register for the class. I mean it seems to me that 2nd degree need online classes more than regular undergrads. (generalization) They told me I could wait until registration closes and then they open extra spots to anyone, but there is no guarantee that there will be open spots. Just wondering if anyone took the class online and how they got around this issue? Thanks!

Seriously, lighten up. I'm 27 and way past high school, been in the real world and realize that "there are no snow days". That doesn't mean I can't wish for one once in a while. Geeze.

I'm taking anatomy and into to biology right now and need them in order to have my application processed(components of gpa). I have already been accepted to Oakland, but not in the nursing program. I'm pretty sure I have to wait until those classes are completed before I can be accepted. So, I just have to wait until those are done. I'm not worried about developmental psy because I've already taken it. My class didn't transfer because it was child and adolescent development and didn't go far enough into adulthood (really annoying). Same thing happened for my intro to bio course, I have a bachelors of science, so, I hope I would be able to know basic biology. Oh well, what can you do? I really can't wait until I'm just accepted already! I really hope I don't have to wait until next fall!

Lisa, I'm in Warren. I'll be done with the pre-reqs in May. I've got everything ready to apply once I'm done with the pre-reqs. During the summer I'll be taking Micro and Developmental Psy, then in the Fall I will take the three online ones. I might split it up and take one during the summer as well.
