I'm X-auto worker, C P R certified, Michigan C N A certified, come on there has be way to make a decent living?

I'm curious how much CNAs make. I have seen that phlebotomists make that much (well, 12-15 per hr). I know student nurses/techs make $15-17 so I think aides probably make a couple dollars less.

Wow, is that possible? Im working my tail off at school and thought I was only going to make a couple dollars more than that when Im done. Ive heard that LPN make that much. Does anyone know? I would be shocked to go thru this hard work and expense to come out making little more than a CNA.

Are you working towards an LPN or an RN? RNs start out between $23.50-25.50 per hr, depending on the hospital system or nursing home.

I cant afford to keep taking pre-reqs right now, so Im only trying to get into the LPN program. I wish I had started sooner, Im 39 now and the older I get the harder its going to be for me to go to school as opposed to working.

I would say a CNA would make between $9 and $12 depending on experience and what type facility hired into. You can go to payscale.com and it will tell you.

I know some LPNs that claim to make close to $30 an hr working in nursing homes.

Hey I feel some y'all ,

but some of us just can't do the pre-request to compete to get in Nursing School, let alone deal with Nursing School. I can handle a decent CNA or P C T job paying about $12 to start but hopefully after 3 or 4 years be at least $15 to 16 dollars.

No disrespect to RNs or LPNs.:bow:

But some or most of all the autoworkers:dancgrp:in there late 30's to middle 40's can't cut nursing school:no: even doe its worth it, some of us hasn't pick up a text book in 10 or 12 years let alone a micro-biology :grn:

Good CNAs are ALWAYS needed. They're an integral member of the health care team and helping people with duties they can't perform themselves can be very rewarding. If that's what you're passionate about, go for it!

The pay range you stated does seem to be a little on the high side for CNAs. I think they top out around the $14 mark but I may be wrong. I know Student Nurses Associates in an RN program at the DMC usually start somewhere in the $14 an hour range, St Joe was paying their student nurse externs $14 an hour, St John pays externs (RN students) $17 and Beaumont pays in the $17 range to their techs as well. Like a previous poster said, you will make less than these positions as a CNA.

Some guys and gals in my program have been CNAs and I think most of them made about $12.

So have you been applying for PCT, or CNA jobs and gotten no response? If you are a CNA then I would think you already know what the pay scale is for that job :confused:? How long have you been certified? As for not being able to "cut" nursing school, I am sure you could, you'd be surprised at who's in the classrooms :)! I hadn't picked up a textbook in almost 20 yrs when I started my pre-reqs.

I worked as a CNA in Traverse City 10 years ago & was making $13.50 an hour then not sure how much it's changed since?
