Any current WCCC students or graduates?

  1. Here's my current situation:

I'm a student at HFCC. I'm not even on the waiting to get into the nursing program (which is 1 1/2 to 2 years), and the only classes I have left are A&P 2 (I'm in A&P 1 right now), and Chemistry. I failed my NET test by 5 points (their requirement is a score of 65), as well.

Well, this is my 4th year in college...I've changed my major a couple of times (First to Nursing then to Liberal Arts then to Elementary Education, and now I've decided that Nursing is the career I want to pursue). So, suffice to say, I'm not really wanting to wait at least another 4 years to finish my schooling. Tranferring to a University is sadly not an option due to finanical constraints.

I've been thinking about transferring to WCCC, and I have a few questions.

Here are the classes and grades that I have at HFCC, that I know will transfer over into the nursing program (pre-reqs and co-reqs)

    English Comp I: C+
    English Comp II: B+
    Sociology: A
    Intro to Psychology: B+
    Lifespan and Development: A
    Intro to Biology: A

(Other than my A&P class, I'm also taking Medical Terminology and Advanced First Aid this semester)

I plan on taking A&P2 this spring semester; and if it's offered, I'm going to take Microbio in the summer, in order to satisfy my pre-req's.

Now, considering I get A's in both A&P's and Microbio, and pass my NET test, I have a few questions:

    1. If I apply for admission to WCCC this spring, get accepted, then transferred over, would I be able to start the Nursing program in the start of 2008? I know I wouldn't be able to apply for the fall 2007 term, since my pre-req's wouldn't be done by time I would need to apply.
    2. If I can't take Microbio this summer, and if I take it in the Fall, will I be able to get into the program in the beginning of 2008, or would I have to wait until the next Fall Semester (2008) began?
    3. Will I have to re-take Eng Comp. I? I know a C+ is passing, but my friend had to re-rake Microbio since she only had a C in it.
    4. If I re-take the NET at HFCC, will it transfer over to WCCC, or do I have to take it WCCC?

Oh, and also...WCCC acceptance is competitve, right? Would they base my GPA off of ALL my classes from HFCC, or just the ones that apply towards the program? Annnndddd....would having some of the co-req's completed give me any sort of an advantage?

Okay, I'm done =) Sorry this is so long-winded. I know I need to talk to a conselour soon. Any help is GREATLY appreciated! =)

I don't know tons about their Nursing program because I never planned to apply for it....but I did take classes there this past fall that would transfer for the Nursing program I am applying to....I had Anatomy and Physiology there. Anyway...from what I hear there is quite a waiting list. Infact, I think it may be a few year wait if someone doesn't live in Washtenaw County. A girl I became decent friends with has been waiting over two years, and she lives in Ann Arbor.

Any, I would call the school and speak with someone.

Hey, I used to go to UofM-Dearborn next to your HFCC.

I know that your NET will be honored at any school, I have not took it but did research on it. It is just like SAT or ACT any school will honor it.

Oh I know how hard it is to get in to nursing school as I am struggling to get in. but what I suggest to you is also apply at MCC. read this pdf.
    http://www.macomb.edu/admit/Selectiv...ns/nursing.pdf

and you will see that they only look at your last 12 Credit, and your HESI exam. I have applied for the 2007 and waiting for the acceptence. anyhow You may want to apply for the 2008, good luck.

I am a student at WCCCD and when applying for the nursing program they look at the grades from your pre-reqs or pre-reqs(A&P 1 and 2, PSY101, Micro, ENG119) and co-reqs(SOC100, HSC100&200, DT 130, PS 100). Whichever equals to the highest gpa. For spring 07, the lowest gpa accepted was a 3.3. The deadline for applying is May 30th for Fall semester and September 30th for Spring semester. Hope this helps :spin:

It would be in your best interest to go to an informational meeting at the Northwest campus. It's on either a Tuesday or Wednesday night and they will be able to answer most of your questions there. You can get more info about the meeting by calling the nursing program at the Northwest campus. If you do decide to attend WCCC, you will have to attend an informational meeting anyway. It is mandatory for entrance into the nursing program there.

I am currently attending WCCCD. I went to the Nurse Info Meeting at the NW campus and the way it was explained to us is that there are FIVE classes that are considered - A&P I, A&P II, Micro, English I, and Psychology. Those are the classes whose grades are factored for your GPA, if those classes net you a GPA of less than 4.0 they will factor in co-reqs to bring up your GPA. The question was asked if the co-reqs could bring your GPA down, and we were told that they would only factor co-reqs if they increase the GPA. There is no waitlist for the program. You have to apply and hope that you get in. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Can you apply in may (and possibly get in) if you plan on taking one of the classes over the spring/summer? I have yet to take micro, but i want to apply and was wondering if they would let you in and have you take micro before you actually enter the program.

I think the cutoff date for the fall semester is April 28. To apply you must have all your pre-reqs finished when you turn in your application. Once again, it is mandatory to attend the informational meeting for entry into the nursing program. Any questions you may have will be answered there.

    No you can not

In reply to the question can you apply without all pre req's finished at application time. You must have them all done before you apply.
