  1. A license is given through the state. Certification is nation-wide. Both are earned, and both require board exams to obtain.
  2. I'm not a Nurse, but I do have to wear scrubs (currently a student medical assistant). I am having such a hard time finding scrubs that fit. They all seem to be too big, and too long. I'm not an uber small girl (size 8 in pants), but even a size small is big on me. I know they should be baggy, but geez...I can almost fit two of me in a pair. They are all so long, too. I'm 5'2", so I'm used to pants being a bit long on me, but wow, I feel like I could sweep the streets with some of the scrub pants I've tried on. I really don't know how the really tiny people can find properly fitting scrubs. Any tips for stores or websites that sell good fitting scrubs for smaller people? Thank you in advance.
  3. Clarified, thank you. I know how it is when something sounds better in my head than when it comes off of my lips, heh.
  4. 3fatchicks.com is a VERY good source.
  5. NO, NO, NO!!! DO NOT GO TO EVEREST. It is NOT a school. It is a business. They're not in it to teach you the Nursing skills you need to be a Nurse, they're in it for the money. Please, trust me, that waitlist is much better than you dropping 25K on tuition.
  6. What do you mean MAs do not posess critical thinking skills? I don't mean to start a flame war, I'm just very curious as to what you meant. It's not like we're taught to just to do skills...At least at my school, we have to know why we're doing it, what happens when we do it, what could potentially go wrong, and how to react and what to do if something does go wrong. I understand that we definately do not learn the same things that Nurses learn, but it's not like we're trained monkies or anything =)
  7. While I don't doubt that SOME MAs will misrepresent themselves, you do have to keep in mind that anytime someone from the general public sees a female in scrubs, she is a "nurse". Which is why I think we need to have a national color coding scrub rule for all healthcare workers. I volunteer at a local hospital, and I have to wear scrubs, but I always have my name tag on the upper left hand of my shirt. It clearly says "VOLUNTEER SERVICES --MY NAME", then my picture. The text is even in a different color than that of an employee's. I can't even begin to tell you how many times people have said "Nurse, my husband needs something!", "Nurse, please come into the room", "Are you Sarah, my nurse?" while looking right at my nametag (my name isn't even Sarah!). Then they look at me like I'm lying when I say "I'm not a nurse, but I'll go find one for you." It's kind of silly =)
  8. Oh wow, I should specify; I meant Wayne County Community College. (lol). That was a definate my bad =)
  9. Here's my current situation: I'm a student at HFCC. I'm not even on the waiting to get into the nursing program (which is 1 1/2 to 2 years), and the only classes I have left are A&P 2 (I'm in A&P 1 right now), and Chemistry. I failed my NET test by 5 points (their requirement is a score of 65), as well. Well, this is my 4th year in college...I've changed my major a couple of times (First to Nursing then to Liberal Arts then to Elementary Education, and now I've decided that Nursing is the career I want to pursue). So, suffice to say, I'm not really wanting to wait at least another 4 years to finish my schooling. Tranferring to a University is sadly not an option due to finanical constraints. I've been thinking about transferring to WCCC, and I have a few questions. Here are the classes and grades that I have at HFCC, that I know will transfer over into the nursing program (pre-reqs and co-reqs) English Comp I: C+ English Comp II: B+ Sociology: A Intro to Psychology: B+ Lifespan and Development: A Intro to Biology: A (Other than my A&P class, I'm also taking Medical Terminology and Advanced First Aid this semester) I plan on taking A&P2 this spring semester; and if it's offered, I'm going to take Microbio in the summer, in order to satisfy my pre-req's. Now, considering I get A's in both A&P's and Microbio, and pass my NET test, I have a few questions: 1. If I apply for admission to WCCC this spring, get accepted, then transferred over, would I be able to start the Nursing program in the start of 2008? I know I wouldn't be able to apply for the fall 2007 term, since my pre-req's wouldn't be done by time I would need to apply. 2. If I can't take Microbio this summer, and if I take it in the Fall, will I be able to get into the program in the beginning of 2008, or would I have to wait until the next Fall Semester (2008) began? 3. Will I have to re-take Eng Comp. I? I know a C+ is passing, but my friend had to re-rake Microbio since she only had a C in it. 4. If I re-take the NET at HFCC, will it transfer over to WCCC, or do I have to take it WCCC? Oh, and also...WCCC acceptance is competitve, right? Would they base my GPA off of ALL my classes from HFCC, or just the ones that apply towards the program? Annnndddd....would having some of the co-req's completed give me any sort of an advantage? Okay, I'm done =) Sorry this is so long-winded. I know I need to talk to a conselour soon. Any help is GREATLY appreciated! =)
