Male Nurses in Crocs?

Maybe I should have posted this in the footwear forum but:

I'm a male student nurse and I've been trying different shoes that don't kill my feet during clinical. On Zappos, they had free returns on Crocs so I decided to give them a shot. They look and feel...odd :rolleyes:

Do any guys out there wear Crocs? The ones I picked up were the vented 'Specialist' in white (school dress code).

Are they supposed to be true to size? I wear size 11 sneakers and the 11 Crocs feel like they are engulfing my feet...

Are Crocs all they are cracked up to be?

Do they last awhile or is this something that I will need to replace every 6 months or so?

I'm asking these questions because if I don't like them, I have to return them in 'like-new' condition (So that means it'll be tough to wear them to work, etc. to really give them a test drive).

i've got some crocs i wear around the house, they just don't look professional enough for me and don't have the tight fit and traction i want in a nursing shoe.

What do you recommend in a clog? I have a pair of Birkenstocks I've been trying to break in for the last 4-5 days, and they are still pretty stiff. The Crocs are cushy, but I'm concerned about long-term foot problems with them due to their softness. I have long, low arches and so many shoes have these high arches on the inside that just dig in!

Crocs run big, I have a size 12 foot and wear a 10 in a Croc. I've tried everything from Birkenstock to Nike shox and the Crocs have been great for my feet and back. They are easily the ugliest shoe I own, but I'm not trying to win any fashion award in the E.R.

Yeah, I had to return my size 11 Crocs and exchange them for 10's - which fit much better! I don't feel like Ronald McDonald in them anymore! I'll still wear them, at least to the OR, but I also bought a pair of Dansko Professional clogs (on the recommendation of multiple people on this site) but had to have them special-ordered. I'll have to see how those puppies fit for general usage on the floors.

We were told never to wear crocs in clinicals and during work. Personally, i can't stand the look of crocs. I wear the usually all white Nike Shox and i'm alright during 8-12 hr clinical/shifts, plus they don't look so generic. New balance is supposedly really good too.

I need to try the Danskos with my size 15s and a nagging prolonged recovery from a fib fx I need better footware.
