Salary at MGH

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows the current starting salary at MGH? A professor of mine said that they start at 100k! Could this be right? What about new grads?

I wouldn't worry too much about the parking. It really isn't that bad and MGH is a great hospital to work for. Thousands of employees get to MGH everyday. They either live near a T station or they drive their cars to a T station, park there, and take the T in. MGH is walking distance from the Charles/ MGH stop on the redline and North Station on the green/orange/commuter rail. You can get a discounted Charlie card (T pass) though MGH. Parking on campus is free on nights and weekends.

I don't really see what other "logistics" would have to be factored in that would be different if you worked at another hospital?

How much does MGH charge for parking?

Specializes in FNP.

Senior staff are the only ones who get parking at MGH. I have been told there is a massive waiting list (a few years long) to get a parking pass for the MGH garage.

Specializes in Nursing instructor, Geriatrics.

I'm curious. Does MGH still require day/night rotation? That makes a difference compared to other hospitals where you could get a regular nonrotating shift. I think it is great what nurses are making in and around Boston. Too bad that the rest of the country does not follow suit. I feel it is so disrespectful to nursing to hear that they start between $18-20 an hour for new grads and diffs only up to $3 per hour at most. If you make $30-35 per hour you are rich. This seems to be the case in the South particularly Florida.

It depends on what position you are hired for. Positions are day/night, day/eve, eve/night, day only, eve only, night only. A lot of floors have full time night staff so day/night rotators only do a couple nights per schedule. Other Boston hospitals have rotating shifts as well. I know BWH and BID do.

Thanks April. This has changed since I worked therre. You could only get day/night position and were on a waiting list for eve/day rotating or strictly days. If you wanted to work strictly nights you could but that was it. Back in the early 90's that is how it was. Glad to see it has changed to accommodate people who can't do night shifts.

No, new grads definitely do not make 100K starting off at MGH, more like high 50's.

Specializes in Neuro, Cardiology, ICU, Med/Surg.
RAISE!!!!market adjustment to go into effect feb 1st.

Tis true... which makes the starting rate something like $29.25.

Specializes in Surgical, ICU, Transplant, Trauma.

I just got offerred a new grad job at MGH and the salary I was quoted is as follows:

$29.28/hr base

if you work 50% of the shift in a eve or night shift you get the differential

evening diff $5/hr

night diff $7/hr

wknd diff $4/hr (so wknd nights are $11/hr)

I was also told night shift parks for FREE but day and eve shifts do have to pay to park

Specializes in Ambulatory Case Management, Clinic, Psychiatry.

Does anyone know or have input on what the salary might be for a newly hired case manager w/ 3 years outpatient CM experience, 5 years RN experience?

Or even what the general RN pay is for someone with 5 yrs experience?

Thanks!!!

My friend works as an RN at MGH with nearly 5 years experience and makes $32 and change/hr.

I'm a new grad and I work at MGH, whoever told you they make 100k clearly has no clue what they are talking about.....unless your working overtime like every week and of course if you work nights...and as a new grad working nights isn't an option your first year....at least on my floor.
