Johns Hopkins new grad 2011

U.S.A. Maryland

Hello Maryland nurses :)

I'm from the Boston area, graduating with my ADN in May. I applied for the JHH clinical nurse residency program and I just got contacted for an interview! I don't know when it will be yet but I'm very excited. I'm not sure if DH and I will be able to relocate, but even the chance to interview with them is an amazing opportunity. Has anyone interviewed there and have any tips? Is anyone in the program currently? I requested the general medicine as my first choice, and critical care and surgery as my secondary choices. The job market is really tough up in the Boston area so I hope something pans out in Baltimore. Everything I've read says the Hopkins name really opens doors for you!

What's the start rate pay for new grads there?

Thanks and best wishes to those that are employed there or still on the hunt!

Hello all my nursing friends! :)

I just received an email yesterday regarding wanting a personal interview for the pediatric emergency department, which was my first choice in the return email that I sent the recruiter. I am now wondering what I should bring to my interview!! Im super nevous and I have no idea what to expect. I feel so honored they are interested in me! I have 3 letters of reference (2 from physicians, and 1 from a clinical instructor). I was wondering what questions I should be prepared for and do they administer a medication exam? I am graduate in 16 days, and will be taking the NCLEX early January. Any recommendations?? Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.

Good luck to everyone!!!

Hello everyone! I am a RN from NY who passed my boards since Feb and haven't had much luck...(same story as many I know). I was just wondering how long of a wait between the time of applying for the position online, and the time you all received an email for a personal interview?

Secondly, has anyone who received an email been an out of state licensed RN?

Last question, did you guys just wait from the email or were you all calling in between the time you applied and received an email invite?

Congrats on the interview offer! Depending on if you do "share time" or not in the ER you will need to bring scrubs and proper shoes. As far as what else to bring? On the Hopkins nursing site they give some basic instructions, in my experience whatever they tell you to bring is all you will essentially need

I believe you will need 2 letters of recommendation from clinical instructors since you are a new graduate.

I'd advise having any questions you may have for the nurse manager written down, and bringing a small pad of paper may be useful if you want to jot down notes.

Good luck!

Hi everyone,

It's been a super duper long time since being on the site. I was hoping to hear back from my two interviews before the deadline for the next start date range. I was so down when I didn't hear back and then to my surprise, the nurse managers of both units contacted me on the 27th and I start on the 9th.

Main point: it just takes patience, especially if you know you want this. Oh yeah, and persistence (the good kind-- that has a point).

I will be on Nelson 7, Surgical Transplant!

Everyone keep your head up, the new year is almost here and I'm praying that you get the offers you are looking for.

So I just hit the 4 month mark of being unemployed since graduating nursing school. With 100s of applications submitted and what seems like even more of rejections, I started to let myself consider non-nursing jobs. With a burst of bravery, I decided to call the nurse manager of the unit I was waitlisted on, I left her a message expressing that I was still very interested in the unit and was curious to know my position on the waitlist. I tried to sound as natural and calm as possible...but probably said "uh" every 3rd word.

She called me back today...and said that a position became available yesterday (the day I called) and asked if I was interested. I believe my response was "more than...I mean...I'm more than interested, if I can say that."

I'm awaiting the official e-mail offer from HR so I can start chipping away at all the paperwork. Somehow I'm hoping to get everything together and be living in Baltimore in less than a month (I'm currently in California).

So ucfRN, your prayers must have worked. And to everyone else...don't give up. Know your worth and believe in yourself as someone worth investing in. Cheers to 2012!

I interviewed on December 20th 2011, and I received my offical OFFER LETTER yesterday (01/20/12)!! I will be starting in the pediatric emergency department May 7th, 2012! A little later than I wanted, but I am truly greatful for this opportunity and I AM SO EXCITED!!!!! Congrats to everyone getting interviews and good luck!

for all of you who have gotten a primary interest letter or were hired, were you told by hr what made your applications stand out to them? i am currently filling out my application now and am debating on whether or not i should attach a cover letter. thanks for the help!

Hi all! I am hoping for some advice about finding positions at JHH that would accept a new grad. I applied for a I-M and promptly received an email saying I needed one year of experience. As other new grads that got interviews: what was the position level that you had luck with?

Thanks!!!

I also had the same question as @NYCgal2010 !

I also had the same question as @NYCgal2010 !

NC I-M jobs are for nurses with 1 year of experience or more. The new grad jobs are labeled NC I.

I was hired as a new grad for an NC I job in ICU.

I believe the new grad jobs are listed as Nurse Clinician on the job search. I was also hired into the ICU as a new grad. Best of luck!
