Starting school soon..

I'll be starting a 2 year B.Sc.Nursing program in September and am wondering if any of my fellow men have any advice for me. :-)

Dude, just relax... Study what you have to study, do your assignments, and treat clinicals like a job. That is all you have to do. Ignore the drama, and don't let others anxiety rub onto you. Some people will tell you that they have no life and no free time. Myself and many others I know have PLENTY of free time to not even think about NS.

I agree completely... I have plenty of free time. It's just a matter of being organized. I read stories about people studying 12 hours a day 7 days a week - I would kill myself after a month of that! One day at a time - thats the best way.

Make nursing school a part of your life, not your entire life.....

Glad to read these posts. I start an accelerated program in September and don't want to give up every aspect of my life to complete it.

Helpful hints:
1. Have a LONG talk w/your girl/boy friend about your schedule. Allow them to help you and it will make them understand why you can't go to the bar some weekends.
2. Get used to a calendar and using it. Plan your semester, papers, deadlines, projects ahead for the three months to avoid surprises. You will find some weeks you'll be pulled by all your classes if you don't prepare accordingly.
3. Get an iPhone/Touch, Palm, or WinPDA. I know, some will laugh at this, but you'll be surprised how helpful having Drugs, Texts, dictionary/theo is when you are already reading a large book and trying to stay awake coming across foreign words/concepts and can look them up by using your PDA.
4. Get a RN mentor, someone you can ask silly questions or for advice and feel comfortable around.
5. Listen to the guys above, avoid the drama...You'll see what we mean in a few weeks
6. Workout, run, take time for play in that schedule of yours. Its not all bad, and some of the horror stories are r/t financial, family and social issues that you may not have.
7. Get a good pair of shoes, comfortable scrubs and a littman stethescope. Also, might want to consider getting a NCLEX study guide. Sometimes these help with tests while in school.

Best of luck, you'll be fine. Most guys fly thru school.

Hi, my name is Brent and I'm a 20 year old nursing student who will actually start Orientation to the ADN tomorrow morning and Wed from 9 am - 4 pm.

I'm a little worried about starting this semester. Of course I know this won't be a walk in the park, but those nerves are rumbling.

Anyways, I just have to go in with a positive attitude that everything will be okay.
