I realize this thread is almost a year old, but did either of you (or anyone else) end up going to UMFK? I am also wondering about the cost of living and lifestyle. I'm from Florida. Never been up north. I wanted to be somewhere different so this will be totally new if I go here.
Are you still thinking of going to UMFK? It is a small town but surrounded by beautiful scenery, a lot of outdoor activities, and very nice people. I would estimate that a 2 bedroom apartment costs $500-700
per month to rent. You'll be paying a bit for electricity or oil depending on how your place it heated. I would not say that groceries are any more costly than other parts of the country. Gas right now is about $3.50 a gallon. Fort Kent is about an hour and 20 minutes from the closest airport. The lifestyle is very laid back. Fort Kent is on the US/Canada border so you have the option of crossing the border if you have a passport. The nursing program itself is considered one of the best in the state, has high first time NCLEX pass rates, and a wonderful/supportive faculty. The University as a whole has been voted one of the best colleges in the northeast by the Princeton Review for 9 years in a row. Hope this helps. I would be happy to answer any specific questions that you may have.
