  1. RocRooms is pretty reasonable, I think between $400-$600? The location is AWESOME though and totally worth it especially if you're coming from California. Actually, I know two girls in my program whose roommate is moving out in August and they are looking for a replacement. It's furnished and super close to school, in the White Coat Ghetto. If you're interested maybe I can connect you guys! I came from orange county too, San Clemente. And let me warn you, it was def kind of a shock! Enjoy the beach all you can this summer!!! But you'll love Rochester, time flies and it's only a year. Winter might be terrifying though :)
  2. Hi hbsummer7! I wrote a post below but have you checked our RocRooms? They are furnished, in the white coat ghetto and I just ran by a few today that have Room for Rent signs out front!! Walking distance to school :)
  3. Hi everyone! Congrats on those who got into the program and good luck/fingers crossed to those that are waiting to hear! I am currently finishing up my first semester (okay well I have six weeks left) of the ABPNN at U of R and I LOVE it!!! I cannot say enough good things about the program. I was hesitant at first, because it is expensive and I am from Southern California (hello culture shock!) but I feel already that it is well worth it. First of all, you are done in 12 months--so you can start working sooner. And it goes by SO fast, I feel like I just started. Also, the faculty is so helpful and giving and there are so many resources to utilize. UR SON also has like a 100% or near to it pass rate for the NCLEX so they prepare us well! The program is fast paced and it is a TON of work, but totally doable if you can manage your time. Working might be hard tho....I quit working because I figured for a year, I need to focus and study and get good grades to move back to Cali :) But it is up to the individual. Anyway, if you guys have any questions about the program, feel free to ask, I know it is overwhelming and daunting but totally worth it!!! Also, if you want tips on housing or anything (especially those coming from far away) let me know! I came and had no furniture and no car and managed to find a place that is furnished and directly across the street from school and the hospital. The White Coat Ghetto is probably the best place to live if you are coming from out of state and want to be close to school and work. You are going to have a great time-hard but rewarding! :)
  4. Hi everyone! :) So congrats to those that have gotten in and fingers crossed for those that are still waiting to hear! I had a question for everyone (and alumni!) I am relocating from California. I know that they suggest bringing a car; however I was wondering where our clinicals tend to be and if public transportation would work? I read that clinicals can be in New Hampshire and/or Boston! Is that only for our internship the last semester? It seems absurd to drive that far just for the day. Or can you pick to have your clinicals close to UMass? If anyone has any insight or information on this that would be awesome and greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!!
  5. Yes sure :) my email is [email protected] name is Bridget :) look forward to talking to you!!
  6. Dbabklyn, nyu would be awesome!! But probably also pricey. Rochester is $60,000 in tuition alone...where did you hear that sum for umass? I was told $29,000 for tuition?
  7. Rach0019 I'm interested!!! Should we email or discuss on here? Congrats on getting in!
  8. Yes let me know :) where else are you looking? I got into university of Rochester, it's only 12 months but it's almost $60,000 in tuition!!
  9. Is anyone moving to western mass and looking for a roommate?!
  10. Hi everyone! I just found out I got into the 2nd degree program as well! I am so excited. I also got into University of Rochester so I am so torn-UMass is much cheaper but longer. I am coming from California! Do you guys know if we need a car for school? And have you all thought about living yet? Congrats to everyone! :) My parents both went to UMass and loved the school!!
  11. samwyman! hi! and congrats on being accepted! I am def interested in the room, especially because like you, I am flying in from California (don't know anyone and have no furniture!) What part of California are you from? I heard the White Coat neighborhood is one of the best for medical/nursing students to live in...and that you do not need a car. Is that true with what your cousin said? Did she love the program? Feel free to email me, [email protected] I would love to talk more! Thanks so much again! :)
  12. Hi Erin! I just sent you a message on FB! I am def interested in finding a place, I love meeting new people :) And from the research I have done online it is def cheaper to live with other people...and more fun! Ukes, I grew up in Orange County (San Clemente!) but now live in San Francisco-what part of SD? It is a big move, going across the country but I think it will be exciting and supposedly U of R is a great nursing school :) My only thing for living somewhere is that it is in walking distance to campus and the hospital as I am not bringing a car. Otherwise, I am flexible and up for anything! Erin, you will have to give me winter advice, I have no warm clothes! Ukes, are you ready for a Rochester winter?
  13. Hi Ukes, I also am accepted to the May cohort and am from California :) Congrats to you! I was wondering if you had figured out housing yet? Lindsm, thanks for the pointers, I read them too. Rochester is far away and all the housing advice helps!
  14. Hi ena6895, Congrats on getting accepted :) I am accepted as well and am really excited! I have heard such good things about the nursing program at Rochester! Anyway, I am moving out from California and am very interested in finding roommates or a roommate. I think it would be fun to live with someone else in the program. I am female and would love to pay $500 or less a month. I have been looking at some housing options online, maybe we can coordinate? Let me know! And yes, congrats to everyone else this is so exciting!
  15. Hi bokerglory! Thanks so much for your detailed response. I actually deferred my acceptance until Fall, because I am a) waiting to hear back from other schools and b) Live in California and was not ready to move across the country just yet. Come August tho, I will be stoked :) I am so glad you are loving it-SU is def one of my top choices. I heard pharmacology was hard, ugh. I heard the pass rate is pretty high at Leesburg, is that correct? Why did you chose Leesburg not the Winchester campus? Also, do you need a car to get around Leesburg or can you walk/take public transportation? Are the other students in your cohort helpful and friendly as well? That is fabulous the professors are so great. Sorry about all the questions, I am so excited/glad I can talk to someone who is going thru it right now! :)
