I work at a family owned facility as the DON. There is a holiday gathering for the DONs and Administrators which is a two hour drive away. I don't want to go. I'm feeling pressured into going. I'm perplexed- did you hire me because I have 10+ years of experience as a DON with two perfect surveys or because I'm a party girl? Just looking for opinions

Yes, these social butterfly type people just have no concept that there are others that just want to do the job they are signed up for and go home. I've been caught in this trap more than once. They sincerely just don't get it.

Convince yourself you're going for the food and then hope they put out a good table.

Well, there's socializing with people you like, and there's attending events full of people you don't really know and couldn't care less about. I will be the first to admit that appearances can be more important than reality. That being said, if you REALLY want these people to think you care about them, their power, and their feelings, by all means go to the event. Sadly, it does make a difference. But, if you're like me (not a schmoozer or social butterfly), you can always make some excuse and skip the event. Best of luck.
