Nursing Students LPN-RN

I have talked with several RN's at my local hospital and they took their classes online to get there RN degree. Is anyone doing this? Can you give me some info on Excelsior...or which programs are the best...where do I start??? I appreciate any and all info!!

Thanks Cathy:nurse:

Hi!

I am doing this program currently, and am really enjoying it. I stay at home with a 2 year old, so I am in love with the freedom of studying and testing whenever I feel like, and not having to put my son in daycare.

The hardest part for me has been to stay disciplined to study, when I really want to keep my family my priority.

What I fear most is the CPNE exam - the final clinical weekend...this seems to be the biggest downside of the program.

You will find LOTS of info on this program on this site! Check out the distance ed forum too. Excelsior has a website with lots of info as well - stick it in google.

Hope that helps a little!

I did the Excelsior RN program and completed it 1/2008. I also just passed my NCLEX RN exam (on 1st try) for Minnesota 4/12/08. This is a very doable program but the CPNE ( clinical exam) is not easy. It is the hardest thing you will ever do in your life (besides the NCLEX). The stress is what gets you. Overall EXCELSIOR ROCKS!! But be sure your state will give you licensure. Lots of new rules coming out restricting Excelsior graduates. It a shame too because most of us have been LPNs for years.

ec is a great program. i noticed that you are a nursing student. ec only accepts certain students into their program . you must be either be a lvn, paramedic, rt or complete 50 % of a rn program ( there are other requirements but they deal with doctors , midwives and chiros). so you need to head to their website and see if you are qualified. also ec is not a online program it is a self paced , test out program. you should have clinical experience for this program because in the end you have a 3 day evaluation of your clinical skills in a real patient simulation . having said all of this is, if you are able to start ec and do well at distant learning then you will love this program...good luck....:wink2:

Hi, I am thinking to join ES. I would like to know about the books that you need. Can some one help me and tell me where can I get the books from. Also I am more concern about 3 days clinical exam at the end. Does any one have any idea what you are actually doing there? I do work in the hospital, but I have heard from few people that they are very hard. Please help.

Thanks.

i received all the help, support and answers i needed from this site:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rnstudygroup/ it was a very small group at the time and has really grown.

i did not use any of the for profit study guides. i purchased all of my texts from www.half.com i purchased a text 1 edition older than the current one suggested by ec. the information does not change and it will save you big bucks! i think the most i paid for a book was $10. i downloaded the study guides from ec. looked up all the info they said i needed to know, wrote it all down in a spiral notebook and that became my completed study guide. i also taped myself reading all of it. i would listen to it at night and in the car. while i was testing i could hear myself (in my head) speaking the answer to the question. i feel i learned and retained exceptionally well. when you get ready for cpne let me know. i can help you.

Head over the the Distance Learning Forum. LOTS of us there.

I have completed all of the tests and will take the clinical exam on 5/28. Then, the boards!

I am currently signed up and trying to study for the test number one. My question is what exactly does the clinical exam consist of and do they supply you with any information to at least study somewhat?

their study guides are free on the EC website and the best thing to do is take the practice tests, that will give you a better idea on what to expect. Practice tests are 100 questions in a 2hour period and the real test is 160 questions in a 3hr period. Good Luck to you:up::up::up:

currently enrolled

heard many good things from instructors

I want to enroll as soon as I pass my LPN boards. There is a lot of information on Excelsior in the Distance Learning forum.
