HELP~ LPN needs help choosing online program for RN
I will be graduating May 6th and taking boards soon after...but I know that I am going to continue on for my RN or BSN. I have checked different programs that I have heard about...but I cant seem to get any info on what pre-req's are needed...and such. I looked into the Indiana school...and they sent me a letter saying Louisiana's state board doesnt recognize there program...so thats out. I have been told to check out Excelsior...but cant seem to find the program syllabus so I can see what pre-req's are required. I also heard of a program named Ruth...but cant find any info on it. So I am asking for your help...and any info you can give me on the programs listed...or any others out there...for an LPN-RN or LPN-BSN...is greatly appreciated!! Thanks in Advance....Cathy

I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.
WOW~ Congrats to all those who passed!!! I will be taking mine in May....seems like sooo far away...but I thought I would share some info with yall. My instructor is on the Louisiana State of Practical Nursing....and this is what she tells us. The NCLEX test will ask a question...and if you get it wrong then it should expand on that area...and maybe ask a really easy question or two. She said the numbers dont really matter....because like some said on here...you can pass at 85 and 205. My guess is it requires you to get a certain number questions in each specific area to pass you!! ....I cant imagine waiting 4 weeks. I would be calling and bugging everyone I could get to talk to me!!! LOL:bowingpur I wish all good luck...and I hope ya'll find out soon!!!!

Is LVN/LPN really harder than RN?
I think its about the same here....our LPN program is 16 months and we are in clinic at the hospital 3 days a week. The local university that has the BSN program....is only at the hospital 1 day a week. The nurses we work with at the hospital say we come out of school knowing more and having more experience due to being in clinic more....but I think its just the fact that our instructor runs this program a certain way...because the other programs locally...dont get as much clinic time as us. I think the other BSN students know it...its just that we have more hands on. Also, in clinic....we have to carry 5 patients a piece....and the BSN students just hang out...they arent required by there program to even have a patient load.... So I really think its all in who runs the program and how it is ran. Here the difference in the cirrculum......... there are more classes toward management and humanities in the BSN programs. I have 3 kids under the age of 5 so I totally understand the crying at the door thing....I just started waking up earlier and studying in the AM when they were still asleep. It worked out better for me because the info was fresh on my mind due to just studying it.

Are LPN/LVNs a dying breed?
I am in LPN school. Here in Louisiana...the demand for LPN's has gotten really big since hurricane Katrina. In certain areas like ER, ICU....they are the unit secretaries...so they can take orders...they dont use them on the floor. We can do most things...except hang blood and IV pushes. My instructor has been teaching for almost 30 years...and she says the same thing...they have been trying to get LPN's out for years....and she doesnt think it will happen anytime soon. Though in the House of Representative RIGHT NOW....is a new bill to allow CNA's to take a course to be able to administer meds. They say its the lobbyist with the LTC facilities that are pushing it because of cheaper pay!! The sad part is that the LPN/RN is still going to be responsible....because the CNA wont be licensed!! I am not sure I want to be responsible for something as important as medication administration that another person has done!!! Who knows what will be waiting when I graduate next May!!! Cathy
