I need some help.....pls what do u all thing abt this?

TCN (The College Network) is not a school -- they are a publishing company. They provide study materials to help you complete the Indiana State program. You don't need TCN to go through ISU's program -- you're simply paying them to be a "middleman." If you really want their study materials, you can buy them on eBay for a fraction of the original TCN price.

The TCN "counselor" you spoke with is a salesman, nothing more. S/he will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to sign the contract. And, once you've signed the contract, you'll be obligated for the entire cost of the entire program, whether or not you complete it, whether you decide after you get started that you're not happy with their products, whether you decide you don't need their services, whether some personal emergency/crisis prevents you from continuing the program -- you'll still legally owe them the entire $28k, and they will hold you to that, regardless.

Have you looked at any other possibilities? $28k sounds outrageously expensive to me. Before you make a decision, please look at the many threads here in the Distance Learning forum about TCN -- a lot of people feel they've had a bad experience with them.

Firstly congrats for deciding to continue on for your rn and beyond:yeah:. I think that the excelsior is a good option for some people, I have decided to do that program myself, after much thought:thnkg:; I too spoke with a rep from TCN. Also note it is self-paced, independent study but not online... so it's definitely not for those who have a hard time staying focused and working independently. But I refuse to pay the college network $500, for one condensed study guide in a 2 dollar 3-ring binder. I have decided to go directly through the school, excelsior college that is and I bought a college network study guide off the internet for the first nursing course(i have the prereqs done) for less than $50. that is >90% off. It is going to safe me lots of money... plus I will never be obligated to continue buying the college network's products if I find that they aren't as great as they say. I can thank this website for my decision, there are a lot of threads on TCN(mostly negative people getting stuck in contracts for $1000s) and Excelsior (both as positive and negative, there is even a thread of tons of people who successfully completed the program and have moved on to have great nursing careers and/or advanced degrees) You also have to make sure it is accepted in your state because it isn't in some states like Arizona, Georgia, California, and a few others. And your best bet is to get your prerequisites at a local community college just to insure that they will transfer incase you decide to go else where, for a different degree program or whatever. Good luck.

Excelsior's distance-based program is not accepted by the California BRN, but ISU's LVN-to-BSN online program is accepted by the California BRN.

Only 28K? why not a junior college its like $1500 for lvn to rn. I took the pre-reqs and applied, I only waited 6 months to get in. At the moment I dont see the need for the BSN, where I work an RN with an AS makes 8500 month and an RN with a BSN makes 8500 month.

Yes. Contact ISU DIRECTLY. Do NOT use College Network. You will, unfortunately, regret it.

Good luck.

I think one may have to use TCN for ISU,

I think one may have to use TCN for ISU,

If that's really the case, that would eliminate ISU from consideration as far as I'm concerned ... (not that I'm in the market for a distance nursing program, anyway -- but, still).

I think one may have to use TCN for ISU,

It is not necessary to use TCN for ISU. More effort on the part of the student, but not necessary to waste money.
